Stephen Huddle called in from Silverthorn, sounding very tired.

You can get the audio here, via RSS,  or on iTunes!

No word from our Lanterne Rouge. I will try to start paring down a montage of humorous moments. I have 29 calls in the running, 11 of which are from Dejay alone!  icon_biggrin

So did Stephen just go down Gold Dust trail off the top of Boreas pass? It kinda looks that way to me, but it might be how the tracker is showing it.

James Hodges called in to say he finished today! We have our Lanterne Rouge, which is quite an accomplishment. I edited his number out but if you'd like to reach out to James just email me.

Looks to be so ... hope it was fun for him.  He's putting in a pretty solid ride so far.

The Cordillera is #1 in Sports and Adventure on Lulu this week. Volume 1 is #7 on the list. I think that's pretty awesome and just wanted to share.

The Cordillera is #1 in Sports and Adventure on Lulu this week. Volume 1 is #7 on the list. I think that's pretty awesome and just wanted to share.

That seems as good a reason to make a final Cordillera post as any so here goes:

The Cordillera Volume 2 is a great book if I do say so myself (I only edited it, the writers get the credit). The effort was first and foremost a creative one but I'd be lying if I said that fundraising didn't become my primary goal at some point. It's obvious to me that many of you felt the same way and we couldn't have sold nearly as many books without your help. I guess you could say that we succeeded then because we've raised over $8,000 for Linnaea Blumenthal's college education. That's a huge number and it will only grow from here because it is going directly into Linnaea's college savings plan. In 14+ years that little girl on Dave's blog that we all teared up over will unwrap a wonderful present: opportunity.

That total includes the matching funds. Having someone come forward with that was totally unexpected and in a way it reaffirms everything I believe about cyclists, adventurers and the immortal class. He reads this forum, he even posts to it, so I want to send out a very public and very sincere THANKS to him right now.

Will there be a Volume 3? Who knows, there's been talk so check back next year.

Thanks everyone!

Eric

If you are willing to edit it I'm sure the writing will be no problem.  Perhaps even some illustrations as we had The Artist in the field this year.  I think continuing to use the profits for Linnaea's college fund would be an excellent idea and one that Dave would no doubt approve of; college could be considered type2 fun, I think.

Maybe the book could contain a section with some short reminiscences about Dave; he was in the bunk opposite me in Banff and although I only traded maybe 3 sentences with him, he impressed me greatly.

Hey Eric -

A big congratulations out to you for putting the Cordillera together and spearheading the effort.  I know you are as humble as they come, and yet I say 'without a driver, the bus don't go nowhere'.  Nicely done.

Great read!  Can't wait for my Cordillera 2 paperback to arrive.

Regarding issues with the drive train and lubing it 2 or 3 x a day... it's still not enough.  I shred my 9 speed chains, continuously, along with small and middle ring gears and cassettes, regardless how expensive the brand, every 5 to 600 miles.  That's correct they are stretched and worn out junk at my 245 pounds riding weight, in 600 miles, consistently. Now I know I won't be doing this ride unless supported, that's a lot of ring gear, cassette and chain for me just to do this ride.

RATS!  It looks like Stephen was forced to take the alternate out of Abiquiu.
