He stayed in Abiquiu last night - last year he flew through town... possibly holding his breath the whole way because that is where he got food poisoning the prior year.  Maybe he didn't want to touch the phone to make a call in?  Or maybe he fell asleep during his "TV party"!

I've been arrived in Banff. I'll start my ITT tomorrow, probably at 7.00. I'll not carry a SPOT, sorry.

Do call in to mtbcast.com or post here from time to time on the trail. I doubt there's a GPS that you can download 18hours a day worth of breadcrumbs riding when they sample every 6 minutes.

Hi Sigma,

Are you not trying for an "official" time, or are you carrying another type of tracker?  From the TD website re: ITT-Divide:

An Individual Time Trial (ITT) is the earliest form of Divide racing....

Abide by TD Rules, carry a SPOT GPS tracker or other brand of GPS logger/tracker, and finish in no more than twice the standing course record (17days x 2) to be eligible for the same Divide racing General Classification that ranks group racers. Contact us for more info.

My understanding from the rules (see 6 on the rules page) is that a spot isn't required, just recommended.  Maybe it is different for an ITT vs the mass start?

I don't see why every competitor wouldn't want a spot.  It proves that he/she did the whole tour using no short-cuts or outside help and that they hold themselves in the highest regard as to honesty.  Plus, mainly, it's darn good fun for friends, family, etc to watch as they make their way up or down the Continental Divide   thumbsup

Looks like he is flying compared to his time last year. Man's got wings!

I'm carrying a Garmin, following the track (2011 v2) provided on topofusion.com. I'm recording my ride.

I'm in Sparwood right now, still fighting with jetlag.

Wow!, Good luck and bring plenty of batteries for that Garmin.  How many points is it capable of storing daily before you have to download it somewhere in town with a cable? Will you be sending the files to a file depot of sorts or on Garmin Connect when you upload portions of your ride? Helps if we can see your account name and keep track of how you are doing on Garmin Connect.

Be prepared for reroutes if necessary for forest fires, especially in New Mexico.

Looks like Stephen wants to get this done today. He had a quick stop in Silver City and took off and is making great time.

The "That's All Folks" blog post on the TD web site counts 6 NoBo finishers out of 15 starters but from what I am able to gather that is not correct. That's because Greg McKennis, one of the 15, was a stealth rider (did not carry a Spot) and he did finish the race, in 3rd place along with Craig Dolwin. I got that information from Roland Sturm.

That would make the NoBo Final GC as follows:

1. Paul Attalla
2. Denis Chazelle
3. Craig Dolwin and Greg McKennis
5. Ross Delaplane
6. Roland Sturm
7. Steve Moore

I have tried to post a comment about this on the blog but it didn't get published.

If anybody has newer or better info, let me know.

Congratulations to all the northbounders who made it. I'm already considering trying it again next year - going to work on my asthma control over the next 12 months.  I'll also check out if there are forest fires before deciding which direction to start from!

If anyone comes down New Zealand way please look me up. My wife has a great bed and breakfast (www.cats-pjamas.com) and there are some great rides in the Nelson area. We've got bikes to spare - inlcuding an only lightly used hardtail from the 2011 TD.

Hope to see you next year.

Thanks!

Will my stats page be fixed in the future? it still shows me as having slept in Banff on the 29th.
Also it says I'm from Charlotte, which is incorrect.

I'll have to catch up with this huge forum post later.
sleepy time, and of course a TV Party!
