I have no idea how you could regulate teams if it was considered an issue.

Ollie and Craig cycled most of the way together, would they be a team?

I probably have had more people come in with some one else than as singles, often they have been cycling together for sometime, something happens and they break up, new groups re form. There may well be some people who start intending to cycle together, that does seem to be the exception, and unless you are on a tandem I wonder how many go the full way.

I think that the casual friendships that form during the race are the best part of the ride for many people.

Looks like Georg is on the move again, so however he did it, looks like problem solved!

PS: 15 miles back up Marshall Pass might sound like a lot, but considering that the next bike shop after Salida is like 600 miles away in Silver City, it could have been a lot worse!

From a friend of Georg on his FB page, translated by Bing:

"New: George Gets a spare wheel at absolute bikes, they make him an acceptable offer, he will resume driving in about an hour"

Not too sure why a spare wheel would solve his frame problem, but his friend sounded optimistic (assuming I can read optimism in German)

Maybe PhilRad can help with the translations?

Rad in German means bike as well as wheel. I suspect a translation error.

That would explain.

Here is the entire comment from his friend:

"Neuigkeit: Georg kriegt bei Absolute Bikes ein Ersatzrad, sie machen ihm ein annehmbares Angebot, er wird in etwa einer Stunde wieder Fahrt aufnehmen"

In English:

News: Georg gets a spare bike at Absolute Bikes, they make him an acceptable offer, he will ride off again in about an hour.

Wow! That was a quick nights sleep in Milan for Kurt.

Craigs legs might be a bit blocked from the rest yesterday, but surely he's going to pull clear later on today?

Thanks Scott and Matthew for getting the sites up and running again!

Anyone else notice that Jo Ann Burtard's spot dot hasn't moved on the Ashton-Flagg Ranch Road today?  Not a place I'd like to be broke down for too long.   Hope all is well up there.

She's had Spot problems from the beginning.  It'll probably jump a hundred miles eventually.

Looks like Kurt caught up to Garry and Craig and was the first to leave Pie Town.

I think we need to have a helicopter fly by to keep us up to date on the battle for 2nd and 3rd!

Looks like there's just two major obstacles left for Ollie - a 1000+ foot climb in about 20 miles, and an ice cream parlour in the tiny town of Pinos Altos. Good luck Ollie!

Does anyone know what tire choice and size Ollie is running? It seems he has a rolling advantage.

BTW, speaking of kiwis, I'm rooting for Chris Bennett. Met him last year at the NoBo start and he was a great guy, very helpful to me and others. Unfortunately, he had an asthma attack on the very first day in the desert heat, was transported to the hospital and couldn't continue. I felt bad for him, you travel all the way from the other side of the world, and by the first day you're out due to medical reasons. He seems to be doing fine this year, currently cruising towards the CO border and averaging a little more than 100 miles a day.

Go Chris go!  thumbsup

Ollie is running a new type of tyre, it's by a brand called "Kiwi" and the model is called "Massive Heart and Power".
It's a ptototype at this stage and only available to a few  thumbsup

George bought a new bike, trading his old (usable) parts in as part of the payment.  So no Rohloff hub? be interesting to see what he is now riding.  Maybe a call to absolute bikes is in order.
