Prentiss is the man.  He also crossed all of the snowy passes in his Chuck Taylors.  Badass.

I bailed from the route at the WY/CO line after moving slow for the first bit due to some bad saddle sores, and then getting brutalized by the hot, dry winds in Montana and Wyoming.  Ran out of time and money, just tried to take it easy and enjoy the last few days on the route.

I was really glad to be able to ride with many of you, and I would like to congratulate you all on your efforts.  This course is a truly amazing test, and dropping out this year makes me want to come back and complete it in 2014, especially if I can forget how much I enjoyed Wyoming...

It has also got me to thinking that the Pacific Northwest is a great place to organize a similar Grand Tour.  I am imagining a great loop through BC, Washington and Oregon.  Both sides of the Cascades, the Olympic Peninsula, Vancouver Island, miles of dirt roads and choice singletrack.  If anyone is interested in that sort of thing, look me up!  Also, come on out for a ride!  I can offer some excellent camping and can recommend some very nice places to ride a bike.

Best of luck to everyone still out there, congrats to the finishers, and a heartfelt GET IT TOGETHER to all the other drop-outs!

I would love a northwest route.  I am tying to get up my nerve (convince the wife) to do the TD in a year or so.

A Pacific Northwest tour would be awesome - especially dirt/single track.  Keep me posted.   thumbsup

Sorry Stephen.
2013? There's a rider from VT that would be pretty excited that you were riding that year...

Mike, I like the color change on the avatar. It made me notice the date change. Do me a huge favor? Don't change it to 2015! ok? Does that mean I can use the white '13 version?

Stephen, I would be delighted to meet you in 2013. Sorry to hear about you early withdrawal.

Yeah, 2013 just isn't in the cards. Being self employed sucks. I work for kind of an asshole. Wants me to earn my keep and what not, and try to support the family and make a profit. And the arrival of little one #2 put a bigger dent in me emotionally and physically than arrival of #1. Slowly getting our fitness and family rhythm back.

I'll set you up an avatar for 2013. I think a few other peeps have snagged the white one.

I have the stickers. Maybe I will pass them out at the start next year. Can't wait to be part of the TD family and hopefully have a successful attempt.

Looks like Dave Nice finally made it across the border. I was worried there for a bit--it seemed like his blue dot was stuck there for quite some time. Maybe he needed to be fitted to a chastity belt as well? Wink

Billy Rice is on a mission!  After a long day in the Gila it looks like he barely paused through Silver City.  Looking very determined out there, WTG Billy!

Anyone studied the race enough to answer this question.
How many nights did Ollie camp or stay in a hotel?

Ollie or Craig could answer with better accuracy, but here's a best guess.
June 8: Corbin, near buildings. Possibly indoors, I can't tell.
June 9: Camped at Tuchuck USFS Campground east of Whitefish Divide.
June 10: Holland Lake Lodge (can't tell if it's camping next to Lodge or in a room).
June 11: Helena Best Western Motel (as per phone-in).
June 12: At Grasshopper Inn near Polaris (can't tell if it's camping next to Lodge or in a room).
June 13: Sawtell Mountain Resort near Island Park (can't tell if it's camping next to Lodge or in a room).
June 14: Lava Mountain Lodge (on highway, east of Brooks Lake / Togwatee Pass) (can't tell if it's camping next to Lodge or in a room).
June 15: Atlantic City (probably slept on the lawn next to the bar and cafe/shop).
June 16: Rough camp next to road ~8 miles north of Aspen Alley.
June 17: Rough camp next to road ~2 miles before Kremmling.
June 18: Salida Motel (as per phone-in).
June 19: Rough camp next to road ~2 miles south of Del Norte.
June 20: Rough camp next to road near Canon Plaza, ~5 miles north of Vallecitos.
June 21: Pueblo Pintado Gas Station area, probably slept in the parking lot or behind a building.
June 22: Rough camp on side of road ~43 miles south of Pie Town (without Craig)
June 23: Rough camp on side of road ~15 miles north of Separ (without Craig)

June 8: Corbin, near buildings. Possibly indoors, I can't tell. - I slept in a derelict shed, Ollie in his tent.
June 9: Camped at Tuchuck USFS Campground east of Whitefish Divide. - I slept in the concrete outhouse, Ollie in his tent.
June 10: Holland Lake Lodge (can't tell if it's camping next to Lodge or in a room). - We shared a cabin, our first reward for the Eureka break.
June 11: Helena Best Western Motel (as per phone-in). - BW.
June 12: At Grasshopper Inn near Polaris (can't tell if it's camping next to Lodge or in a room). - Shared a room in the Inn.
June 13: Sawtell Mountain Resort near Island Park (can't tell if it's camping next to Lodge or in a room). - Camped beside the resort.
June 14: Lava Mountain Lodge (on highway, east of Brooks Lake / Togwatee Pass) (can't tell if it's camping next to Lodge or in a room). - Got a room at the Lava Mountain Lodge. Left bikes outside, mud frozen solid, well below zero that morning.
June 15: Atlantic City (probably slept on the lawn next to the bar and cafe/shop). - Camped on the spot of the old teepee.
June 16: Rough camp next to road ~8 miles north of Aspen Alley. - Correct.
June 17: Rough camp next to road ~2 miles before Kremmling. - Correct.
June 18: Salida Motel (as per phone-in). - Aspen Leaf Lodge.
June 19: Rough camp next to road ~2 miles south of Del Norte. - Near the end of the pavement on Indiana Pass.
June 20: Rough camp next to road near Canon Plaza, ~5 miles north of Vallecitos. - Camped near the snack shack before El Rito.
June 21: Pueblo Pintado Gas Station area, probably slept in the parking lot or behind a building. - Slept under the roof of a community mailbox.
June 22: Rough camp on side of road ~43 miles south of Pie Town (without Craig) - Best Western in Grants for me.
June 23: Rough camp on side of road ~15 miles north of Separ (without Craig) - Rough camp about 8 miles past the Beaverhead work station

I think that's right. It kind of all blends together. Looks like six nights indoors for me. Way more than I anticipated. Ollie would have been five. Roughly 1/3. Partly due to the crappy weather in the beginning.
