Just compared them at the crossing of 35 north of Silver City. It says 15:01:52 for Jay and 15:07:14 for Ollie. So that's about 5 and 1/2 hour lead for Jay.

Jay Petervary called in from Silver City! He’s heading out for the final push! "... 100% solo ... 0% Hotels ..." and probably the record. Great!

Ollie to Silver City 15:12:54
JP to Silver City 15:05:14
Lead of 7 hours 40 minutes
21 hours and 40 minutes for JP to match Ollie's time to Antelope Wells.
A few of the other top riders this year did it in about 12 hours.
Bring it home JP!

JP is past Hachita, so an early evening finish, well under 16 days. So probably 10 hours faster?

Looks like it will be about 15:15:xx. Certainly no more than 15:16:xx.

I'm done trying to predict anything. I thought the record would stand for awhile about 3 records ago. I'm amazed at the spread Ollie put in and to best it by 10hrs is incredible!

Wow, with all the impressive riding going down I wonder what 2013 will bring. I head rumor that the guy who won the race around the world is coming back to the divide 2013. This could get very interesting.

probably2 yrs in-a-row where JayP comes out towards end of summer to set the bar lower still. 0% hotels is the most telling stat for me, though.

I have to say. JP's time just makes me so much more impressed with Ollies effort. Ollie was racing a race, not a target time, and had some pretty crap conditions in the early days. To be only 10 hours behind what was a focussed TT effort is pretty amazing in my view. Even more so for a TD novice. Well done to everyone that ever finished this crazy event. I am in awe of you, but that doesn't mean I want to do it myself!

Congrats to JP! Amazing!!! one last question for all to ponder... JP mentions thanks to "all of my sponsors" - do sponsors affect the "purity" of the ride?

Absolutely not. Lots of different ways to pay for a race: sponsorship, personal savings, trust fund, credit card, spouse, friends, etc. All of them are equally valid.

Personally, my strategy was to propose my "services" to the cute girls working the counters of various convenience stores along the route. I almost died of hunger!

4 racers this year bested Jay's previous record leading me to believe that conditions this year weren't all that bad and that the old record was a little "soft" Jay didn't have the snowfields but might have had more dust and washboard and perhaps smoke. I thought other than the first 3 to 4 days for the Grand Depart that the weather was pretty good. Ollie for a first attempt impressed us all. While Jay had experience on his side Ollie had youth. Jay talked the talk earlier but backed it up by walking the walk. Ollie might be more laid back while Jay is more intense. Introvert vs. extrovert? One gets their energy from others while the other gets their energy from being on their own. I think extroverts might have more trouble with long solo attempts while introverts might have an advantage. Both chased records and broke them. Amazing daily averages carrying gear, and doing it day after day after day. No days off and no real bad days that they couldn't recover from. Great year for the Tour Divide. New woman's record by a long shot and 2 new men's records within 2 months.

I'm in awe of Jay P's ride. So stoked that he was able to defend his record. You have to remember that, as a GDR Rookie, he broke the border to border record, was the first to race tandem with T-Race, which the lone challenger(s) weren't able to break this year, broke the TD record in 2011 that stood for what? 4 years last year? Integrity man - the dude's got heart.
Anyone finishing sub-20 days has my utmost respect, to say nothing to anyone that finishes at all. This year, I wasn't even close to breaking Chris Plesko's single speed record from '09 and no where near what Jefe could have had done, if he had raced this year. The reason isn't because of some slight modification needed in my riding style, technique or strategy - or smiling-on-me weather charms worn around my neck- there's simply some pretty fast people racing this thing and I'm clearly still a journeyman on my own ultra endurance spirit quest. Ollie most certainly has one of the most impressive rookie as well as out of the country (Er, continent?!) times ever stomped out. Respect around!
