Hey Vance, I remember finding you in the road and telling you about Hungry Bear. I think it was John ( can't remember his last name) who took the photo. I never saw it either. I think he made it to Polaris and had health issues that forced him to drop. I hope you are doing well. Cheers, Derek

It's a bit hard to wrap my head around the riders, errrr HAB'ers, trudging through fresh snow right now when It's 106ยบ outside!! Has anyone heard an update from Eric Foster re: his knee? His SPOT has been idle for 20 hours or so.

Anyone know what's up with Lawrence Brouwer?
Eric Foster's last call in said he was doing well. Maybe letting the swelling subside and rest it up before putting it through some more punishment?

I don't think he ran out of food. He could have gone to the Hungry Bear or Holland Lake Lodge for that. I don't think he missed the turn. There's a huge sign on the corner. He could be riding home. The tracker says he from Corvallis, which is about 115 mi away from his present location. He'll also get cell service in Seeley. Hope everything is alright.

Got calls today from Jim Stansbury, Fred Arden, Fixie Dave Nice, Bret Stepanik, Eric Foster, Kurt and Caroline, Serge Chiasson, Tracey Petervary, Eszter Horanyi, and Craig Stappler. Eric got his knee checked out and it's not damaged. He also recounts a black bear following him and having to hide in a restroom! Fixie Dave reports his ankle is doing much better too.

Did I understand correctly that Eric Foster put his knee back together by using his bike as a traction device? Like, attaching it to your leg and pushing the pedals with your hands to pull it back? However he did it: wow, man!

Great photos there Caseygreene. The guys actually look surprisingly fresh in them. As an interested watcher from down under, is that a "normal" amount of snow up there for the time of year? Oh, and go Ollie!

Yep, that's normal. Especially on that north facing slope.

Bad news. Word is that Josh Shifferly took a bad spill on the downhill coming into Helena and won't be able to continue. We have arranged transportation back to Colorado. He said he is banged up but nothing broken. Josh was keeping a strong pace and it's a bummer to see this kind of thing happen--good luck on the recovery Josh.

Here's some pics of the 2 leaders heading thru the 1/8-mile sketchy section below Richmond Peak at around 7am Monday.
Wow! I wouldn't want to come upon that all iced up in the wee hours wearing bike shoes. Kicking steps in your bike shoes, into ice-over. What fun! Is this where Justin slipped last year? (I'll have to go back through the archives because I believe he posted his story about a fall).
