ITTr Kevin took a wrong turn also. Looks like he's heading up Stemple Pass.

He's going to be really confused by the 5 way instersection at the top if he doesn't figure it out before then.
EDIT: Nevermind, looks like he's already there and being followed by KS!

I seen Joe Polk wright something about licking wounds...
This is about the day where all the previous days have added up and are now being felt. Sore butts, tight/stretched out achilles, worked knees, tired body, and tired sleepy... The next few days these things will hurt and need to be dealt with and then they will go away and you then feel like a machine. the hard part is getting through those days and knowing the discomforts will pass by, not easy at all.
Oh and besides dealing, they will still ride and push themselves everyday, slowing that healing time down...oh, and they will soon be hitting clay type roads instead of the buff gravel they been on, hope the rain in the forcast is wrong...

The reports I'm getting are looking good for the roads between Bannack and Lima. 20% isolated t-storms today and tonight, with 30% chance of rain tomorrow. Then clear. If the CS and OW happen upon that stretch during a hard-pounding t-storm, it could let some riders catch up.

Anyone know if Ollie stayed in Helena to get his brakes fixed there?

I saw two riders leaving Helena by 7 a.m., so I assume one had to be Ollie.

Looks like Kevin Greten is going to have quite the additional mileage today to get back on track. Looks like two others may be following his tracks now too...
JayP - It's great to hear your thoughts (along with Jill etc) from a racer's perspective. Thank you!

It looks like Kevin G has realized his mistake and is heading back over the pass. Poor guy.

The other two fellas will at least get the benefit of that. Lunch on them I'd say

Garrett's spot has already registered a turn-around before Stemple. Classic turn at Poorman that has gotten a few a past, and will get more in the future.

Does this blown turn even happen with GPS, or are these cues-only kinds of scenarios?

You can miss a turn with a GPS depending how you truncated the track to make it fit on the device memory card. The problem with the turn they are missing is that there are 5 roads at an intersection. Using a combination of the cue sheet, map and GPS is the most sure way for a rookie to navigate. Last year, I filmed a 360 view of the road situation. It is confusing. https://vimeo.com/43913409

I can't believe those guys are already to Basin. Wow. 170/day avg? will they have to slow down at some point? I would think it is going to get a lot faster for quite a while now. Does the south end of the route slow you down?

160+ or so a day has basically been around the winning pace the last few years at least. What's impressive this year is that they did that while having to push their bikes for hours at a time the first 3 days. The higher elevations and passes are in the south (southern Colorado and northern New Mexico). Combined with the toll on the body and the mind those first days may have taken, it will likely slow some people down, including some who may currently be in the top 10, but whoever finishes in the top 10 at the end will likely have kept the pace.
