It looks like Serge just got about 5 bonus miles in but is back on track.
I looked back at the pic of him from a few pages back in the thread, and I see that he's got some device between his aero bars that looks a little small to be GPS, so I'm thinking he's got map case (Bar Map OTG) and a cyclometer, which would support missing the turn on Brooks Lake Rd.  Glad he realized it before "too late".  Brooks Lake is a funny 4 mile stretch that's preceded by an ~8mile pave climb and followed by an ~8mile pave decent (Southbound speaking).  It's real easy to get to the top of the climb at Togwotee Pass and start bombing down the hill on the other side before realizing "oh s**t".  It's even more subtle when the turn is covered in snow.

Looks like Kurt S had a great lunch at the Buffalo Cafe and is now solidly caught by his 3 "followers".  How long will Serge hold his solo 3rd-spot?  I've got some random speculating that says someone out of the group of 4 behind him will catch him by Rawlins.

Ollie and I just had lunch in Pinedale. Winds look awesomely favorable for the next bit. Brooks lake road was partly mud. Yesterday my legs left the building after the rail trail. I detoured to the Timberline golf course. Had two cheeseburgers, fries, three chocolate bars, a coke, watched Anderson Cooper on tv and had a nap. Ollie got caught in a highway closure, due to a head on accident. I was pleasantly surprised to see his bike outside the Buffalo Valley cafe. He was glad to see me too, seems he missed me. We climb and descend virtually identically, we're no dumbies, staying together has MANY advantages. Dream team reunited.
Craig.

If it works out that way, and that may be a big IF, it would be way cool to see Craig and Ollie finish together in a mutually-shared record time.

While everyone has to do what makes them most happy, it would go to my belief that there is soooo much more to biking than just comparing oneself to timing numbers on a website or a piece of paper.

Keep rockin' it everybody!

Nice Work Craig

While Ollie might have missed you I'm sure he just wants you to break trail through any more snow!

Isn't it more about doing your "best" and not really the timing/record aspect even if you are that fast?  If both of their "bests" were the exact same over 2700+ miles that would be amazing.  Seems at some point you'd want to see if you could push just that little bit more.

Yeah, sure, who knows?

In my strange little world "best" isn't a synonym for "fastest".  Fast can certainly be an important part of best, but when fast becomes the same as best in a person's mind, ugly things happen to their soul.

That's probably just me - to each their own.

Everybody have fun tonight, everbody wang chung tonight!   headbang

Can anyone point me to the start list? I can't seem to find it anywhere on tourdivide.org or the trackleaders site. I know there is a racer from Whitehorse but don't know who he is.

The rider from Whitehorse, YT is Wade Larson. He seems to have scratched this morning just a little bit north of Seeley Lake:

The Commonwealth Kids are kicking butt! Whether they choose to stay together or duke it out for supremacy is  up to them. Personally, I'm really enjoying watching a couple of really fast and fun guys demolish the record. Amazing...

Robin B is finally gaining time on TP after a quick turn around in Lima. Hoping to see him commit to a long riding day after some proper rest last night and find a riding partner late today early tomorrow to push on with for a couple of days.

He doesn't seem to be hanging with anybody, maybe pulling away from Michael I. as well.  Robin's a rider that I've been thinking is riding a little bit reserved.  Not that I know much about him personally, but from what I experienced briefly out on TD in 2010 he is a good rider, so I won't be surprised if he makes up ground consistently from here on to AW.

Guenther Glettler is the guy that called in about Fogg yesterday. He started in Whitefish due to his bike showing up late. He was riding with Fogg and now is riding just for fun we presume and his spot is not on.

Eszther Horanyi continues to crush it! For a few days her miles per day avg. was slowly dropping. She has been steadily increasing her pace, however, and is now at a 150+/day average.

Mark Farnsworth is going to make this one count - he quit his job to do this race. You would not know it but mountain biking is only his third sport - after road racing and inline skating - and endurance was always his weak spot. Go figure.
He is a custom steel bike frame builder and is trying to make this a proving ground for his frame (see febikes.com).
One this he knows how to do is deal with discomfort and pain - take it from his training partner - he is one tough mother.

The list just provided was not inclusive of all the riders?  Did all the Italians sign up at the last moment?  They appear to be strong riders with a good command of what is needed to be successful.   does anyone know anything about them?  Viva Italia!

HAHAHA, that's great.  And I love the quote!

Rad is right - He is one tough dude.  I love the pictures he has of himself inline skating the Blue Ridge during a bike race (and passing people).  He's done a phenomenal job dialing in his nutrition and and adding to his endurance in such a short time.  Can't wait to hear the stories when he gets back and hear what his next big adventure will be.
