I'm glad ya'll had a good experience in Pinedale. I have such a negative mental association (except for the hardware store/bike shop) and couldn't wait to leave. Of course it could have been related to the fact that I got stormed on 16 out of 19 days in 2009 including the 3 hours on the way into Pinedale. Luckily we found a shed roof to sleep under in Boulder that night. I was pretty beaten down on being cold and wet at that point and fell asleep in my rain gear while doing laundry.
I'm loving the race this year, so many great rides going on right now. The Basin is a fabulous place and a wonder spot to make a big push. I would certainly rather be there than in class all day! Go Eric, go Dave, go Ez, go t-race!

Brooks Lake Road must be completely clear and dry right now. It doesn't seem like that section has slowed anyone down so far.

Looks like the golden spike will indeed be north of Rawlins on one of the loneliest parts of the route. Guess we need to place or bets on the time now. I say 4:20pm.

Any word on the estimated release date of Cordillera volume 3?
Pleased to be able to report that the Cordillera volume 3 is now available... http://www.lulu.com/shop/eric-bruntjen/the-cordillera-v3/paperback/product-20177206.htmlHope you all enjoy it as much as when Eric was in sole charge (don't worry, his guiding influence is still strong). You've got stories from Kurt Refsnider and Paul Attalla relating the historic golden spoke, as well as Joe Polk metamorphosing into a cockroach and Justin Simoni's original snow epic (pre Lone Ranger days). And it's still raising money for Linnaea Blumenthal's college fees - an excellent cause, I'm sure you'll all agree. Bye it now, spread the word. Paul

Ollie and Craig are likely to pass Cjell about now, Cjell's tracker last updated 20 min ago and they are shown as 10 mi apart. With fast closing speed - If I could be a lizard north of Rawlins right now. Are there any customs or stories from the past regarding protocol on this?? Why does this post say 11:40 - is that Alaska time??

So...I'm somewhat confused as I try to compare Whalley and Money. Whalley seems to be farther along the Sobo route, yet Money's stats show him averaging 190+ days on the Nobo course. Whoever is in the lead, the men's record looks to be in jeopardy. This is my second year as a blue dot junkie and this year's race has been much more intriguing. I so hope that the racers get to complete the course without facing the numerous reroutes that led to last year's race not being added to the GC. We may get to see multiple records broken by more than one rider in each category. Lastly, Eszther Horanyi is gaining speed. She appears to be experiencing what I've heard several racers describe as getting TDR fit during the TDR. The women's record will likely be much closer to the men's when she finishes.
Miles/day doesn't work for NoBo'ers as it counts down (he started with the clock at Zero but already at the 2730 mile mark). If you check now it has gotten lower than when you posted. I think you just need to look at what mile they are at subrtact from the final tally (2730? 27501?) and somehow try to guauge which should be faster if there is a difference at all. Or do the same caluclation but then divide by the time on the race clock to get each racers actual miles/day. Cjell's seems to be at 150.24 vs CS/OW's 178.72 assuming they all started at the same time. Or Cjell is ~237 miles behind. That would actually put him in 10th place overall between Jarral and Babe the Blue Tandem.

We've got some goofy splits on the leaderboard.
Long Ranger only took 30 minutes to get from Butte to Lima! (spoiler - he isn't there yet)
Also interesting to note that Serge is almost on JayP's record pace.
