Hey you local guys and veterans of the ride....what is the closest bike shop to Lima? Got a major problem with my front tire and need to find a bike shop for a replacement....hopefully trying to figure out a ride there too....

Yes, I do not expect that the two front runners will climb Indiana Pass at the same speed......if they stay together then someone is going a bit slower than max pace. We shall see!
Or one of them is going faster than max pace (ie headed for an explosion). I don't know the route and haven't done anything on its scale, so I can't speak to it personally. However, is it possible that one is actually above the pace that he can actually maintain for another week or so? All the discussion here assumes that one is riding slower than his potential, but I am wondering if the opposite could be the case. Perhaps someone with a lot more experience could chime in?

Well...It's time for our co-leaders to find out who's the strongest/toughest climber. And I imagine the upcoming sections favor the racer with the best descents as well. What amazing rides the racers are throwing down this year!
After this many days of riding together, let alone an hour in a lap race, I'd put forth that the racer parts of their brains already know who's stronger at what. It's when to make a move. One likely feels it'll be easy, and therefore why need to start it yet. One feels it'll be hard/impossible, and therefore won't. So perhaps it's a stalemate for a while. Alternately, perhaps they feel entirely equally sized up... and many riders chase better than lead, so don't want to start that drag race yet. Seems like a tough choice to me. Also, if maximimizing the size of the "new record" if they're thinking about that, yes it's very far away, but they must at least dream given the pace so far, might be best done by maximizing time at least sort of together.

Looks like Justin, aka Long Ranger is heading to Jackson. There are a few bike shops there so the hub is probably giving him more trouble and he thought best to get it repaired now while a few shops are somewhat near. Actually, it looks like about 25 miles off route...50 bonus miles!!

Sounds like a sound analysis to me. I would personally prefer to see them split up; it just seems more in keeping with the 'solo self-supported' aspect of the race.

For the most part the climbing grades in Colorado are very mild. If one of the leaders makes a break I really would be surprised if it's made on just a climb

agree w/ bikingbakke and Climb On. or are they both so comfortable with each other being around for so long and they are both feeling scared to pull away from each other...when will the games begin, sort of boring up there...start throwing punches boys!

Could be waiting for the other to have a mechanical. A bit risky.
I find the race for 3-10 much more interesting at this point.

My guess for break would be the pavement section after Cuba. Or sometime around Grants or Pietown.

TDR lurker who just registered for this forum just to be a part of the FFC! While I am impressed with everybody who attempts this crazy event, and while there are a lot of great stories out there, we all have our favorites...so Go Mark! Way to HTFU!!!

I have always said there is a lot of climbing in CO, but fairly sustainable workable climbs. That is so on a single. It is a whole different story on a tandem and am very curious how it goes for Big Blue in CO. Grant it when we were out there we had tons of soft conditions but it is something that stands out in my cycling challenges as one of the physically hardest times.

don't forget to add your favorite farnsworth quote to your signature. FYI, there is going to be an FFC meeting tonight, we will be making some tough decisions. I'll post the a summary tonight after the meeting.

Serge leaves the Brush Mtn Lodge at the 4am (ish) and has been in Steamboat for awhile now getting fixed up at Orange Peel. The other 3 guys who stayed at BML got started 8am or later.
So much for a 4-hr jump on the other riders. Serge gets fixed in the 'Boat, and the other guys don't, so they're close to back together again to battle in out for 2nd....
