Craig required more serious hydration, we have a beer sponsor for this year btw. Well until the money runs out so pedal faster.

I missed some today, I had forgotten that I was doing tours for the Christian Camp up the road, so I have to show 150 around split in to 4 groups. I was theoretically closed today, Tour Riders excepted, due to staff shortage. Open again tomorrow. Anybody out there cook?

Ollie and Craig came in together. Ollie chose ice cream. Ice cream and Coke? Is that really what you should eat for proper nutrition for a 16 day race??!

Serge had a beer, Ginger beer, I guess that counts. And a Burrito and ice cream with chocolate sauce. And lots of water.

Looks like Fixie Dave rolled into Atlantic City-- must be a huge mental boost to get through the basin after all the wind and heat. Go Dave go!

Nice to see Craig and his bike. They both seem to be holding up. His bags, made by Porcelain Rocket, still look awesome.

I was wondering... For those who've raced, and maybe also for those who spectate awfully closely... Can you tell from your impressions at the Depart who's gonna be a playa? Is there a "capacity" or, conversely, a "lightweightness," that you kinda can't hide? I suppose it's a combo of physical and mental as well. Is someone who has major-league resources there somewhat apparent early on?
I recall bumping into pro road bike racers in the past and they did seem to "emit vibes" and have a bearing about them that seemed amped up beyond normal despite being calm. They seemed to have an acuity. Relaxed but ready ... x 10.
I suppose also when I've been at the big local AuSable Canoe Marathon (15 hours, world's biggest canoe race) the town is jam packed on race day but it's easy for me to detect a racer amongst the regular people. I only recall one or two who didn't play to "vibe" type.
Maybe talent for going the distance, fast, is apparent at the Depart? Or, maybe no? Plenty of surprises?

I was thinking Adam would be in Como for 8, but now I see he has gone by.
Jarral will be next, maybe in the morning.

If he ate that all the time, probably not, but sometimes calories are more important than what they come from. Jill Horner ate a lot of candy during her ride. If you're feeling a bit down on energy, some quick sugar can do wonders for the system.

Only 3 more big climbs left for the leaders. A break tomorrow? A long ride through the night? I'm pretty sure drinking large pints of beer everyday will help fuel Craig on to the finish.

Do you know how many calories these guys are burning? The more fat the better. It is nearly impossible to eat enough calories for stuff like this and even maintain body weight.

You don't understand. It's not about nutrients. It's about calories. You're not going to get very far on salad in this race.
