That stretch of blue dots across 5 states (7 if you include the ITTs) is pretty cool to watch! Looks like the difference between Ollie and the current lanterne rouge is something like 1,800 miles. Pretty amazing! And congrats to Ollie: beating the record by this much while having a reasonable sleep every single night is nothing short of of spectacular! I didn't think it could be done.  |

Hi there,
Sorry to barge in……
I have been looking round the WWW at the TD12 and at TD’s from previous years. I really fancy having a go at it another year, but having real problems finding enough information to dare to take 4 weeks from work, fly out there (I am in the UK) and be on the start line.
I’m right in saying that the organiser has very little input, but what do I need to do to get a good knowledge of the route, and make a go of it? I wouldn’t be a winner, but would just hope to finish by doing 90-140 mile days. Done loads of 8/10day plus Alps rides in Europe but guess the huts etc are not nearly as close or as good as there.

Tyson's mom, are you a cyclist, MB or Roadie? Good luck to Tyson! I also would love to give a run at this race, as someone who is an avid cyclist but just returning to MB after a 10year road only experience. The time commitment for training... is the question. Maybe that is why i love all these riders form Ollie, to Tracy to Tyson, Elena, all of them for the pursuit of a goal. A goal that takes as much or more mental strength as physical.
I am not a cyclist or MB but I have been so inspired by Tyson that I took my "brand new 5 year old Bike" into the shop yesterday to get it tuned up so I can start working on getting my endurance up so I can ride the TD!! Honestly, it sounds like the most exciting thing to do, I really got hooked when watching the TD movie. So I am really hoping they let us do teams some year so maybe a Mother/Son team:-) |

A very consistent effort by Ollie, with 5-6 hours of sleep every night and steadily riding all day, every day. His workman like ethic every day for 2+ weeks really made the difference. Hi there,
what do I need to do to get a good knowledge of the route, and make a go of it?
Chris, Buy the map set from Adventure Cycling. It details food, water, trail conditions etc. Download the GPS track from Topofusion and load it into Google Earth. Fly the route in google earth. Put the route in a good handlebar mounted GPS. Then all you need is to be able to ride and ride...... Congratulations to Ollie! |

I agree that it's amazing that Ollie did this with a "workman" like effort. Put in long strong days, get adequate sleep, repeat. No all nighters, just solid strong days, every day. I am thoroughly impressed...great job!

Hey Chris, Lots of info on the forums here from past years. Many UK riders have done this, if you can locate some of them they can give you lots of info - Aidan Harding would be a great source and should be easy to locate as he was organising a big TD-type race in the UK this year, I believe. Other than that, get the maps and also Paul Howard's book Two Wheels on my Wagon for a feel for the race. Best of Luck, Bob |

FYI: It looks like Trackleaders mileage has been recalculated to mirror the correct mileage for everyone currently on the route.

Big Hooray for OW. Ultra inspiring super effort!! Not only a big win for OW but also a victory for alternate technology. Hopefully this will push inventors and innovators to re-examine the paradigm of standard bicycle component. Thanks for two weeks of great entertainment. Watching dots has never been so much fun. |

Just spoke to Ollie. He's happy to be finished. He fired off an OK message at 10:46 this morn from AW...right after he donned the white jersey for top rookie and maize jersey for GC. 16:02:46 is the new time to beat. Congratulations Ollie!
