That's 1 of 105 in. There's still plenty of racing! And now that Ollie's in, I really need to get out of the house!

Hi there,
Sorry to barge in……
I have been looking round the WWW at the TD12 and at TD’s from previous years. I really fancy having a go at it another year, but having real problems finding enough information to dare to take 4 weeks from work, fly out there (I am in the UK) and be on the start line.
I’m right in saying that the organiser has very little input, but what do I need to do to get a good knowledge of the route, and make a go of it? I wouldn’t be a winner, but would just hope to finish by doing 90-140 mile days. Done loads of 8/10day plus Alps rides in Europe but guess the huts etc are not nearly as close or as good as there.
Help, ta
Chris
This site has all the information you need to get started. Search the forums and you'll basically everything. If there is something missing that you have a question about, post a new thread. Goodluck.

A very consistent effort by Ollie, with 5-6 hours of sleep every night and steadily riding all day, every day. His workman like ethic every day for 2+ weeks really made the difference. Hope you enjoyed it Ollie and Congratulations!
+1 - great ride Ollie....enjoy a few ice cold beers now!

Eric Foster, how's the knee? Are you going to do the TD again?

I agree that it's amazing that Ollie did this with a "workman" like effort. Put in long strong days, get adequate sleep, repeat. No all nighters, just solid strong days, every day. I am thoroughly impressed...great job!
I guess Ollie redefined "Eat, Sleep and Ride!" Again, congrats Ollie!

Eric Foster, how's the knee? Are you going to do the TD again? I saw his name and wondered if it was the same one who put his own knee back in place. Eric, you are amazing for being able to do that and still ride for days after. Not sure if there is an award for best medical, but you or Tracie B should get one (I can't believe she's riding again, either!)!!

I second that. I dislocated my thumb the other day and a guy who was riding with me took 10 minutes to put it back by pulling it forward. How the heck do you pull on your own lower leg with that kind of strength and in such pain? And then I barely could ride for a week because it hurts shifting! Shifting! Meanwhile after you put it back on your own, you rode 80 miles in snow, blizzards and freezing rain over Canadian passes, check into a doc and then keep on riding for Zeus knows how many more days and miles. I tell you what: I think barring another major setback like this one, you certainly should be considered a strong contender for 2013! I'm in awe!

Calls Serge Chiasson called in from the Good Pie Cafe in Pie Town. He was out of cash and they don’t take plastic but they’re letting him mail a check! Props to the Good Pie! I love that there are still places in America that trust in others. Thank you to everyone who keeps track of the riders on the route!! I know I have appreciated all of the photos and smiles provided!!!

Got a call in from The Long Ranger called in from Salida. He recaps his ride through Radium, Kremling, and South Park. He apologizes for not calling as much but he did call last night. Maybe he forgot. :p

Looks like Craig might be having a nap at the Bear Creek Motel in Pinos Altos. Don't sleep too long!

Thanks too to Simon Kennett, who after doing the GDR in 2008, brought the concept back to New Zealand and blooded us with the Kiwi Brevet. It probably has a bit more climbing per km, at steeper gradients, but the fact that its only 1100kms and you are at no risk of being bitten by a bear or snake makes it a good intro to bikepacking. It sure hasn't done Ollie any harm : )
Still lots of fun to be had out there. Keep it rolling everyone.
