Great to see Kurt and Garrett going for a sub 17 day finish pulling an allnighter in the process. Impressive in light of their long days in the last week. Has anyone heard from Craig.

These guys & gals towards the front are blitzing the route! 3 (possibly 4 if Craig's spot is malfunctioning) riders under 17 days? Wow. Eszter had a rare hotel stay last night and is off in the early morning darkness. She has got to be excited for pie town...I know I am excited for her to hit pie town and tell us all about it

This entry is for dummies who, like me until yesterday, have no idea what a Schlumpf crankset is. Some days ago I wondered how northbounder Cjell Money is switching gears on his 2-gear bike. Reading his blog once again the word Schlumpf popped up. Here is a nice video about what a Schlumpf crankset does.
Apparently the mountain drive crankset has two ratios, 1:1 and 2.5:1. In the latter mode, the front chainwheel turns around once for 2.5 pedal turns. The crankset fits in common size bottom shells.
The price is around 500 dollars. In providing just 2 gears, this makes Rohloff look like a bargain in giving 14 gears for around $1000.

Congratulations to Garrett and Kurt for this morning's ride into Antelope Wells! Hope Craig will get on the road to the finish soon...this race still has some exciting struggles, like Babe and Eric and the pack of guys coming up on Katherine. Go Katherine!

I've been following (and I am inspired by) the Tour Divide for many years.....this year has been very exciting....BUT... the access to information has been pretty BAD. The "Tour Divide" website is only good for the Trackerboard with its 'Spot'-ty info which is some time hours and/or days off of current time....ALL of the other Tour Divide website feature that were happening in previous years, were not happen this year. MTB Cast is great but the riders don't call-in for days....nothing can be done about that...It's great to have the 'human' side of the story with real voices and funny details. This site (Bikepacking Ultra Racing forum) has been a good source of info....BUT...it's a public forum with opinions & comments etc. etc...... Just getting the straight info can be challenging. LIKE..... what happend with 2nd...3rd...4th....place riders? .....what time did they turn in? ?? Their Spot trackers are no longer on the leaderboard......Ollie got first place.... the rest got forgotten? Can someone please act as the "News Reporter" on one of the websites and come up with some posting of useful info (like finish times....or other facts & figures)

ekloko - you can always see finish times by looking at the trackleaders site, half way down, under Leaderboard. I find half the fun of this race is the challenge of following the racers, through spot, call-ins and eyewitness accounts. It's not Nascar so there is no birds eye view other than the spot's which, of course, are technology based and therefore glitches occasionally occur.

How much does that job pay? I can exclusively reveal that web commentary for the past two years was paid at a rate directly linked to Phil Ligget's TdeF salary according to the following formula: $Phil Ligget earns - $Phil Ligget earns = TD commentators salary. Any retrospective donations from Ekloco gratefully accepted (to be shared with the TD website slackers, of course).

So who is the red caboose? I believe this years lanterne rouge is Tracy Burge. She had a very rough start but is plugging away.

Calls overnight and this morning: Eszter Horanyi called in last night from Grants. A little leery of riding through at night. She’s staying there tonight and then on to Pie Town. Ollie Whalley called in from Silver City to recap his finish! Kurt and Caroline called in from Cuba. They recap their rough ride yesterday. And Serge Chiasson called in from the Beaverhead Work Center. He’s hoping to get down to Silver City today. His SPOT batteries are low but hopefully he’ll keep tracking.

Does anyone have any info on why Craig hasn't finished yet? ? Erik Given that his last SPOT update was over 19hrs ago I would assume it's either not working or he's turned it off.

In the past we've had someone transcribing which helps a lot but is a big job. I used to do recaps nearly every night. This too is a big job and personal responsibilities and issues really became taxing. I'm hopping to do more of that going forward. Keeping track of the racers is a bigger job than you think. For me processing the audio and keeping track here on the forum is time consuming. I love it, don't get me wrong, but juggling work and this means you can only do so much. I think if someone wanted to do something like this then do so. We've stopped seeking transcribers/summarizers initially because some of the racers were having their own bloggers do something similar but also it is a lot of work. You really are dedicating a large chunk of your June/July to the race. It's a commitment and one that you have to take seriously if you jump into it.

I propose we change that salary formula to 100% of the TD entry fees!

EH thinks Pie Town is closed Mondays but Good Pie Cafe's website says hours are 8a-4p M-F. Hope that puts a smile on her face and fuel in her body to tackle the headwinds.

It looks like Garrett and Kurt came in together at 16:22 (trackleaders reports Garrett at 16:22:00 and Kurt at 16:22:04 which more than likely means they rolled in together).
