seems that Craig finished second in front of Garrett and Kurt, although the leaderboard show Craig in 4th. Which way did it really go down?

As Dave said, Trackleaders only uses Spot data to determine estimated placements. If a Spot is turned off before the finish line, Trackeaders is no longer "accurate" because it doesn't know where a rider is. So, Trackleaders is good for watching the race, but it shouldn't be used to determine actual placement. As far as final placement goes, it's up to Matthew Lee to post after he determines that a rider has completed the race according to the TD rules. He'll then publish the results (or not, as occurred last year) when he feels like it. By all accounts, Craig came in second. |

Looks like Cjell and Serge both have around 150 miles left to complete. I'd guess Cjell has the tougher terrain plus it looks like rain is forecast. Either way, both these guys have put in strong efforts. Jarral seems to moving well. The only way I think he'll catch Serge though is if he puts in an all nighter and Serge doesn't. Still a lot of good racing going on. Ezster is 5 days ahead of record pace...unbelievable!
How did the fire-reroute in NM affect CM's terrain and mileage overall? I looked for the re-route tracker dots but they aren't on CM's or Fixie's history. I'd guess that the pavement is a faster option than going thru the Gila. Not to discount CM's ride cause for sure he's faster than I and most of the other riders out there...and on FLAT PEDALS no less. Kids got some determination and stamina! |

Just saw Cjell on Corbin Rd about 15 miles outside of Sparwood. He was in a great mood and SO excited to have a SPOT stalker  He had a great tail wind coming down and was loving the weather..sunny but I told him to expect thunderstorms on and off till he gets to Banff. He was also very excited when I told him there was an A&W in Sparwood. Here are a couple of pictures of Cjell and one with his biggest SPOT Stalker. Keep going Cjell!!! You're doing great and it was wonderful to meet you. |

Anyone who doesn't stop to pet a dog that cute will be disqualified. Unless, of course, they are allergic to dogs--in which case a few words of baby-speak will be expected. |

Only dogs that live on the route are allowed to sniff riders going by. Dogs should not fly in expecting to spectate.

For folks who've commented on wanting more news from riders on the trail, I'll mention that I've been updating Sara Dallman's individual tracker page each day/night with updates from her, as a way of communicating her progress and experience to friends and family back home. You can click on any individual racer and be taken to his or her tracker page, where you'll find a message board at the bottom similar to this one, but particular to that rider, of course. I don't know how many other riders have similar blogs that have sprung up, but if you're looking for more news and information from the trail, that's one place to look. I started keeping detailed notes about stops and mileage because Sara told me she just hadn't had the time and energy to keep her race diary, as she had planned to do. I'm intending to print out all of these posts near the end of her ride, so she'll have a record of what I've recorded for her, as well as the words of encouragement and inspiration shouted out from her friends and family along the way.

More calls: TD12 - Max Morris called in from La Garita Store. Some tough climbs and headwinds but he sounds okay. Heading on to Del Norte. And Tyson Fahrenbruck called in from Rawlins. He’s in an Econolodge and looking forward to Dominoes! Looking forward to his first trip into Colorado! |

Dylan Thomas is taking a break just west of Pie Town on hwy 60. He was looking like he could smell the finish and was riding a hard pace. Matching that pace is Jarral Ryter who has really cut into Serge's lead as he is fading. Jarral had been able to only stay within 100 miles of Serge but is under 40 at the moment when their spots sync.

Just wondering, for anyone who has experience with this... in terms of getting out of Antelope Wells after the race, is there anything that can be pre-arranged, or is the best bet to figure it out when you arrive at the border? I'm hoping to find some information re: shuttles/transportation options to Lordsburg...

Looks like in tennis shoes and flat pedals? he has been trucking along pretty well. |

Cjell just completed a lighting fast visit to Elkford, looks like he wants to have Breakfast in Banff?
Weather is currentlly clear warm and sunny, the last storm blew came and went quickly. Calling for more unsettled hope it holds, that performance cotton tank top Cjell is wearing is no match for mother nature

I am Cjell's mom. In regards to his clothing.....he did do some bike racing in college and had all the appropriate clothing, shoes, etc. So he knows what the advantages of those choices. He has biked many places in the world and always looks pretty much like he does on this race. So I guess that is what he is most comfortable with. The helmet.....as his mom I am not happy with that choice but he is old enough to make his own decisions and I can only give my opinion. For someone who usually makes very good decisions this helmet one, in my opinion, is a poor one. But you gotta love the boy!!!!!!! He is one in a million. Always upbeat and loves what he does.
He is pretty frugal (that's putting it nicely) but he will put money into something important to him, ie his bike, but if he sees no advantage he won't buy extras (the clothing).
We are so proud of him. His dad is in Banff waiting for him to finish and I don't think he knows so it will be a big surprise.
Go Cjell!!!!

On rider safety, other than bears and a couple of stolen bikes this call and this call from Jeff Kerby are about as close to danger from outsiders as we've gotten.  Thanks for sharing those calls- Jeff was great relating that "clown" encounter, good lord. Thanks to all of you in the proverbial clubhouse, sharing everything, what an experience and I am not even racing. Wow. Hats off to the gallant racers present and past, every friend, spouse, w rider info and update, and most definitely you folks who organize the Tour Divide. I'm hooked and donation happily given. I've already committed out loud to too many people that this is my next race. Spray for the bears, tazer for the clowns? |
