That Muni (mountain unicycle) is a singlespeeder from the looks of it. No need to adapt the two speed crank, they make a two speed unicycle hub so you just need to build up a wheel with one and bingo.
And are those aerobars??

Anyone know why Dave Meissner is backtracking? Looks like he has gone back over his tracks about 10 miles so far and still going.

But this company has it covered. Amazing stuff.

I don't know, but it's not a great spot to backtrack. Not sure exactly where it starts, but one of the toughest climbs of the ride is right where he is now. It's loose lava sand or something on a steep incline. I would hate to have to do it twice. Have to have a good reason.

Hey fans,
Cjell arrived in Banff at 4:20 and was met with a warm embrace from his dad which was still a surprise to him. I took a few photos for him and his dad and will post shortly but promptly came back to the shop to get out of the 8c and rain. Cjell, dad and i snapped a couple of beers and a buffet of food dad brought down to celebrate with.
Cjell is a trooper, very humble and mentioned he looks forward to not being on the saddle tomorrow and not waking up at 4:30am. To the rest of the riders godspeed, stay awesome out there.

WTG Cjell! For fans of the 2011 snowpocalypse, our 2nd place female Tori Fahey is out on the route again, promising to up the fun factor for ride #2. Anyone have first hand knowledge of fellow Texan Billy Rice? He hasn't called in lately but is dutifully chuggin' along, putting in what look like some long solo efforts lately. Esther looks to have not been slowed down much in the CDT alt, she's flying still with many hours in the saddle. WOW!

I just talked to Cjell and he was in great spirits and glad to be done. He loved the surprise of his dad meeting him at the finish line. Shocked would be more like it!! It was a little outside his comfort zone, a trip on the spur of the moment. Cjell said he is glad to know he isn't getting up at 4:30 tomorrow morning and getting back on his bike. He did say how beautiful the trail was coming into Banff. Lots of wildlife. He said he was cold and miserable and then a bald eagle flew in front on him. Beautiful. Life was great. How could it get better than that!! Kucebags - the bike shop guy in Banff - He said you were great and enjoyed going back to the bike shop and shooting the breeze.
I'm so glad he is well and safe and had a good race. YEA Cjell!!!!!!!!!!

Marco is a veteran with a ride of 19 days (last year?), this year he is taking it easy, riding along with Elena. I would love to hear his thoughts on the tow different styles of riding. Also if he misses not being in the "race" this year.
So, are they in the race? Will they be ranked if they're riding the whole route together?

And yes...no helmet. No idea why! Probably because of the weight. He's never worn a helmet touring. I mentioned something when I saw him on his ride through Frisco, CO. He said he should have had one during the NM stretch, for sure. Congratulations Cjell!!! Truly an unbelievable experience and a ride of a lifetime.
According to the rules (as I read them), family and friends are prohibited from visiting with riders along the course -- am I wrong? I'm planning to ride the TD next year and I'm trying to get my mind around the rules.

Congratulations to all the new finishers, and to Cjell how awesome is that to be surprised by your dad. What a great story he added to the whole adventure, all without a helmet. As a mom, I have to say that is a little scary but what freedom there is in riding without one Good luck to all the riders still riding and it is still fun to watch everyone as they come in one by one!! Thanks to everyone who is still posting pictures and writing in about the riders. Our son< Tyson has his new tracker working so we can follow him again and that makes it more fun for us here at home. He is doing so awesome and seems to get stronger everyday!! Way to go Ty, ride your ride and have fun, Diana

Cjell arrived in Banff at 4:20
Hah, too funny! 4:20. Helluva ride, helluva unique TDR setup! Super excited to read Cjell's writeup on the race. Will his race status automatically change from "Active"? His Spot didn't record any points for the last few miles.
