Why is babe the tandem always a blue dot, we know who the spirit and inspiration for the ride came from. The second women across the line. go Caroline!
Ha, ha, it looks like 'babe th blue is now pink! Ya gotta love it! Ride 'pink' to the finish...

Maybe Caroline can be the captain and Kurt can take the backseat for the last 100+ miles.... Woody

Cool! Bt is now pink. Go Caroline & Kurt!
It is very cool but if you want to give them equal effort it could be lavender.

I hope Eric S. has got it going again. He spent all day backtracking and is now at Beaverhead work center. Almost makes me think he lost something very important.
GO Eric GO!!!

with respect to the earlier threads regarding Ollie's list, and the graphical improvement of Ollie's list, I'd be interested to hear from him in retrospect if he'd do any revisions.

Wow. Dylan is nearly to the end, and I almost missed it! Good job, Dylan! I hope they have a bed and some good food waiting at the end of the line! You made it when you wanted to, and had a super smooth delivery, from what I could tell from the Blue Dot Trail Ride. I feel like I had almost the same amount of sleep as Dylan, but I wasn't working as hard (physically). And I was eating better, too! I have great respect for all the riders who endure this ride and can still smile!

The first finishers have completed the last stretch at faster speeds than is common on the other parts of the course. Look for Kurt and Caroline to roll Babe up to a nice pace and have an impressive final stretch, assuming the wind is not in their faces and energy levels are there.

BTW, speaking of kiwis, I'm rooting for Chris Bennett. Met him last year at the NoBo start and he was a great guy, very helpful to me and others. Unfortunately, he had an asthma attack on the very first day in the desert heat, was transported to the hospital and couldn't continue. I felt bad for him, you travel all the way from the other side of the world, and by the first day you're out due to medical reasons. He seems to be doing fine this year, currently cruising towards the CO border and averaging a little more than 100 miles a day. Go Chris go! Hi Denis, Thanks for your vote of confidence! You'll see I've been stuck in Steamboat for a few days ... I got to Bush Mountain Lodge at 21:30 on Saturday night with Elena and Marco (from Italy) where Matt and Scott fed us a great dinner. Unfortunately got an e-mail that my 90 year old mother had that day fallen and broken her hip. I rolled out at 04:00 and got to Craig at 09:30 where I was able to get some calls in and an update. My father was going to be put into residential care since he has mild dementia and there was nobody to take care of him until I finished the race. I couldn't continue with a clear conscience so I hoofed it to Steamboat and got to Denver that night, and Toronto the next day. It was a real drag as I was 100% physically and mentally, and keeping my 100+ miles a day up. I had broken the back of the race and there was no doubt in my mind that I would finish. Matt has kindly left me as 'active'. My wife is flying in from New Zealand in just over a week if if the stars align I'm going to head back to Steamboat mid-July and finish the course. My wife and work are OK with this plan - just depends on my parent's situation. If this unfortunately does not eventuate it's OK. This year the race didn't break me ... but I still want to finish the beast!

I'm hoping that Kurt and Caroline are at the Grinder Mill and NOT the funeral home as their spot currently shows. Burritos to GO!!

Chris, I hope things work out for the whole family. I'm sure you'll finish the beast at your first possible opportunity.

Calls: Cjell Money called in from Banff with his final call. He has tails of border crossing woes and a “420” explanation for his Mom! And Jo Ann Burtard called in from Rawlins. She’s doing well despite the winds.

Congrats Ezster! Over 5 days off the women's record. I see that record standing for a loooong time. Excellent job. Simply amazing. The amount she crushed the record by is about what her record setting CTR time was. I guess that means she could have done laps in Colorado and still have broken the old TD record? Except there's still Katherine out there that's going to crush the old record too.

Cjell - I hope that chastity belt is working out for you! Probably unecessary given the well documented effect of long distance cycling on reproductive capacity. Hilarious. The mounties sound about as thorough as our Customs can be in NZ. Any whiff of illicit fruit or vege when coming into NZ and you're up for a big fine. Brings to mind a crossing between Chile and Argentina in the mid 1990s. My partner and I, on a long term tour of Careterra Austral, had stocked up our panniers with "wild" apples before crossing in the rain. We spent hours in the customs shelter watching others having fruit and other stuff confiscated (we helped eat some of it) before we went on our merry way unsearched. Awesome effort, love the minimalist setup.
