Any serious blue dot junkies might like to check out this one: http://www.yukonriverquest.com/yrq/app/12yrq/results.phpI'm following a friend in a 715 km paddling race on the Yukon. She is in one of the magenta two person kayaks. The display is pretty entertaining, though no call-ins. My wife is in one of the voyageurs, The Unsinkables. Which team are you following?

Eric S texted me at 5AM this morning stating he made it to Silver City and is ok. I am guessing he rode all night. He is planning on making the push once he gets some sleep.

Awesome rides to all the finishers. Keep grinding to all still out there. You're all my heroes. Eszter is a monster. Kurt and Caroline, I can't imagine hauling the tandem through the CDT. Katherine kicks ass. Kurt and Garrett are formidable racers and fine gentlemen. Sad that Adam Jensen, Erik Lobeck and Phillip Fogg had to drop. Best wishes to Ryan Correy and my roommate in Banff, Steven Martine and of course everyones emotional favorite David Nice for safe and speedy finishes. Cjell, I loved our golden spoke moment, too hilarious, I've got lots of water if you still need some!! Ollie and I may have suffered permanent hearing loss! Ollie Whalley, super rider, even better person, very deserving champion. Craig Stappler

I had a couple of bats at the Yukon River Quest, and the 1000 miler down to near Fairbanks - great fun races (and how I heard about the TD). I think Cadet was listed as an entry in the 1000 this year but is no longer on the start list - anybody know why? Its a pretty tough lesson in sleep deprivation, but we do have the midnight sun to make it survivable - another challenge for riders who can't afford to ruin their achillies again???

Elena M. looks to be inside an ancient meteor crater or perhaps a volcanic bast of the past! Any geologist or astro physicist out there?

Hey - the leaderboard at http://trackleaders.com/tourdivide seems wonky for ~the first 10 days of the race for some riders? Look at Brett S, for example. Is that normal?

Many congratulations to those who have finished the race. And many kudos to Ollie and Eszter for some record breaking rides!! You guys all racked up some serious daily mileage.......unbelieveable!!
The heat is on for the field in the devil's playground, New Mexico! Can't believe those temps and as miserable as the CDT Alternate is with good weather it will be TOUGH!! Hang in there everyone and be safe.
Will continue to enjoy watching the blue dots............

finishing this ride 3 years in row ain't bad, especially with also completing the AZT 750 back in April. Beardog is turning into a bikepacking ironhorse. On pace for another 22 day finish this year ...

Calls today: Greg Strauser called in to say he’s off route and finishing what he can while he still has time. He’s still headed to Mexico but will continue off route. Dan Haskin called in from outside Rawlins. He’s still rolling but his Spot is having issues. He’s had some tough winds and a riding companion at one point! Brett Stepanik called in from Platoro. He recaps his ride and toilet hotel adventure. Fixie Dave Nice called in from Helena again. He got checked out and apparently broke his nose and sprained his thumb. He got his rack fixed up thanks to Ace Hardware and is shooting for Lincoln. Kurt and Caroline called in from Lordsburg to say they finished at 10:15am. Both are glad to be done! Jim Stansbury called in from Island Park. Still recovering and made it a short day. Michael Cleveland called in from Steamboat. He went back to Rawlins and road back to Steamboat. And Max Morris called in from Cuba. He had his hardest day of the Tour. He’s hoping to recover and be back to normal tomorrow.

Has anyone else noticed that Ryan C was off the course and headed further up Rte 35 in the Gila earlier today. Had to tick him off! And now, Alberto B is doing the same thing!!! Maybe this will give Katherine W a chance to gain back her spot if she can avoid the same pitfall. Just has to get Terry B off her tail. Tons of excitement still out there...
Footnote: Hope Eric S set his alarm or he'll be known as Rip Van Schraufnagel!

I touched base with Ryan earlier and he mentioned going off route where Alberto B is now doing the same thing. He was definitely a little frustrated, after "running on fumes for most of the day". He wasn't looking forward to back tracking in the heat. He found a place to fuel up and cool off for a bit, so in the end, it worked out alright Hopefully Alberto will take advantage of the services also.

I think you're looking at Jemez Caldera, and old volcano that blew the top of the mountain off, then collapsed. There are little cones that formed inside. Some really cool volcanic rocks down there--to a geologist anyway.

Cool pics. It is so weird watching dots move and hoping riders make great distances but having no clue what the conditions are. Even more amazing when you see shots of sand and snow--and extreme heat.

Re: Off route at Roberts Lake
I am learning a lot about the route and services by zooming in on the brief "off routes".
The map shows 140+ miles (half of it hot tough climbing) between the Pie Town grocery store and the Roberts Lake store.
Seems like Roberts Lake would be a welcome and necessary resupply before the single track from Roberts Lake to Silver City along the high ridge above Skates Canyon.
From the topo the track looks like fun riding in daylight, but might be hazardous in the dark of night?

I talked to Eric S. He supposed to leave Silver City at 3 pm. His Dad mentioned he was having problem with his SPOT (I guess it was due to low batteries). I am assuming he never got that fixed and his SPOT just stopped working.

ThatDudeOnABike, Thanks. Looking at the satellite image it immediately struck me as some form of blast. The debris field is symmetrical about the center. You can see the center cones. Just looking at the map, you can see the circle then wehn you look at the photo the rock color and formation. it is a lot like Newberry crater in Central Oregon. Also Lago Di Bolsena in Umbria.
