Been hearing rumors that the Jemez Ranger District of the SF Natl Forest in NM may go into full closure before July 4th.  Hope most folks can push through that section before then.

To everyone who has had an issue on the ride: You are awesome for two reasons!!! 1) For even starting the adventure of the TD! & 2) For getting as far as you did - even if it wasn't as far as you wanted! You are among a very few in number and are amazing!! Thank you for letting us "participate" through you!!
To everyone along the ride: Thank you for the pictures and updates!!!
To everyone "behind the scenes": Thank you for doing what you do so the ride can go on!!!

Congrats to Ryan. Great race, and another amazing accomplishment to your already awesome list of accomplishments!

@RootingforGary: how about changing your nick to RootingforEverybody...  icon_biggrin  thumbsup

(That, or every racer could change their name to Gary)

This afternoon, the three riders (Alberto, Terry, Katherine) on the final stretch, south of Silver City, have 100 degree temps, but at least they have tail winds to make the hot ride go a little faster.

Alberto is ripping up the course! 16.7 moving ave speed.  I would think its a mistake but i have watched him for the duration.  He zooms ahead, slows relaxes and then takes off again.  The first week it rode off and on with Giovanni and Danilo... then up ahaed, next week back with his boys, then it was like he decided to stop playing and put the hammer down.  Go Alberto!

Great to see riders still trickling in.

Ollie will be giving an interview on NZ National Radio in a few hours (12.50pm NZ time).  If interested you should be able to get a stream of it on their website.

"And before the 1pm news we speak to Kiwi cycling record-breaker Oliver Whalley. He's just spent 17 hours a day sitting in a bike saddle for 16 consecutive days, pedalling nearly 4,500 kilometres in the process. He's just won the Tour Divide, an ultra-cycling event that crosses the US and Canada, smashing the course record by almost 2 days!"

Now there's another bit of media exaggeration.  Not to take anything away from OW, but I'm not sure how besting the record by 1 day, 6 hrs, and  few minutes equates to "almost 2 days".

In their defense, Jay P.'s time isn't listed on the TD site. Just Matthew Lee's 2009 time of 17:23:45. So, Ollie's 16:02:54 is almost two days better than the time that's on the official site. Maybe the reporter should have dug for more details--but it's easy to see why they just went with the most obvious source of information.

I know, I am an idiot but I couldn't access the interview.  If anyone can figure out how to do it please post it.  Being half Kiwi I found Ollie's ride particularly interesting.

Does anyone have any more pictures to post?? They are the definite best highlight for me!

Here are some concentrated picture links from this thread.

His pictures are not showing up the same - you can click on the "Re: TD'12 Race Discussion" link and it will take you to the post with picture.

I can't thank you two gentlemen enough for hosting the riders and providing us with pictures and other information.  Both have less posts lately and I know the Depot has got to be busy, but I'm anxious to see some updates from the bottom of the Gold Dust Trail.

Sorry slowdave - on checking that link i can't get it to work either.  It's supposed to be streaming using Media Player.  I'm on XP and can't get it to work.  There are some notes on the site for Vista.  I'll be fortunate to listen to on the wireless.  Once its runs "live" it will be filed on the site in a different format such as MP3 or Ogg Vorbis - these seem to work ok.
