So happy for the racers who finished on the 4th of July, what a great day to be able to finish on, for many reasons!!  All I see is storms and more storms coming, hoping Tyson was able to pick up some warmer clothing somewhere or he will have more hours of wet cold riding ahead.  He is pushing to be done asap.  It is taking him longer than he thought, but I would imagine for Rookie, he is learning a lot about this ride and would make different choices next time icon_biggrin  Overall, he is doing an amazing ride headbang

Good luck to all still riding and so happy for those who have finished!!

SaraD's in the final push to the finish.  I hope she gets there in time to get the 100 mpd badge of honor.  I think she needs to make it by 6:53pm on July5 (27d10h53m).  When she paused last night for a couple hours at the north end of the CDT Single Track, I assumed she was stopping for the night, and was excited to see that she restarted and rode through the night.  It will be an big push for her to make it, but she's in range of doing it.

July 2, overnight in Grants, Mile 2365.
July 3, overnight on side of road, Mile 2503.
July 4, 8:48pm arrived at the north end of the CDT Single Track, mile 2593. Departed at 11pm!

JULY 5:
5:12am, Pinos Altos.  The last challenging section is now behind her, just miles to crank out now.
7:00am, Silver City, Mile 2620.
12:11pm, Separ Store, Mile 2671.
She can make it to border for 100 mpd badge if she doesn't spend much time eating ice cream!  Current wind = 12 mph from WNW and steadily getting windier.  7.5 miles of dirt road with perfect tail wind.  Then 55 miles of lonely pavement with a cross-wind, or if she's lucky a bit of a tail wind.
1:23pm - left the store!
2:00pm - turned south onto the lonely paved road to the border.  Mile 2679.
65 fairly flat miles to go.  SPOT speed on the east-bound leg was 14mpg, but the turn south may slow that considerably if she has a cross-wind instead of a tail-wind.  Wind conditions will probably determine her finishing time.  GO GO GO!
3:21pm, arrive Hachita, Mile 2698
47 fairly flat miles to go in 3.5 hours.  It's going to be very tight.  Hachita weather station now shows winds from the WNW 11 mph.  GO GO GO!
5:20pm, through the Hatchet Gap, Mile 2717.
28 fairly flat miles to go but only 1.5 hours left.  Doesn't look possible unless the winds really shift and pick up speed  GO GO GO!

FINISHED at 8:05pm.  27d:12h:05m.  Route Distance Per Day = 99.82 miles.
Amazing push in the last 38 hours.  Fantastic Ride.  Congrats.

Dave -- down a dozen Blue Bunny ice cream sandwiches at the Boulton Store and put this puppy to bed.  Great riding today.

It is so great to see Fixie Dave on the home stretch after so many attempts.  If I remember right he had sworn off the TD altogether after the last run.  This is going to be so sweet for him.

Two friends and myself were riding from Banff to Whitefish, an had the opportunity to meet Fixie Dave on the trail Tuesday late afternoon. He had just climbed Galton Pass and looked good, little banged up, but he looked strong and confident on finishing.

SaraD mentioned to me that Steven Martine is trying to finish in time for his little girl's birthday - sending him strong, positive energy to the finish!

Dave Nice just pulled into Banff a little before 11:30 p.m. My friend Keith was there with a group to greet him at the Spray River Trailhead and sent me this picture. I bet he's enjoying that beer.

To Mr. David Nice (aka Fixie Dave)

It has come to my attention that late on the evening of July 5th, 2012 you were victorious in your long fought TDR war!

After many TDR battles lost, countless mishaps and truly bizarre setbacks your perseverance and determination have brought you complete and indisputable success.

Over the years, you’re at times almost heroic efforts at slaying the TDR dragon have been a true inspiration to many of your fellow TDR comrades.

Congratulations, and may you cherish this ultimate TDR triumph!!!   thumbsup thumbsup

Sincerely, your brother in TDR battle
