I was told 2 bridges are out on the trail leading to Banff.

Is that the Goat Creek Trail?

Yeah, Silver dots for over 60.... those young bucks [50's] still think they're 30, but I know life begins at 40 and again at 60!

Don't dismiss the Swiss boys Reto 52 and Saemi 51, they've done the race before and have come from a loooong way back in the field and have been closing steadily over the last week with very disciplined and consistent riding, dare I say like 'clockwork'. Just about in the top 10 now.

Here's some footage of the South Fork Complex fire.  Too close for comfort!  http://vimeo.com/69120008

Someone "hoped" that they would open some forests in time for later riders...I spoke with the district ranger in NM, the forests that are closed now won't open until it rains.

Just out of interest, has anyone done any calcs on the average age of TD riders? Either previous years or this year.

This is from the spreadsheet that racers put their names on this year. It's not the complete list, but relatively close to all the riders. Has a very nice statistics tab that breaks it all down.

Any help appreciated, thanks, Scott

Dear Tour Dividers, An FYI
http://www.banff.ca/AlertCenter.aspx?AID=Highways-update-from-Parks-Canada-and-Ro-32

Goat Creek - CLOSED - All three bridges are gone and massive trail damage
Smith Dorrian Highway CLOSED - several road washouts and multiple mud/ rock slides
Boulton Creek Store - CLOSED - (ive heard two stories one it washed away and one just severe flooding
regardless you cant get to it as the area is CLOSED
Legacy trail (Banff - Canmore) CLOSED - several sections are simply not there. washed away, gone etc
Highway access to Bicycles - CLOSED - being enforced - The highway has just opened but is single lane in many spots and alternating one lane with pilot car max speed 60km/hr in one section.

I cannot confirm what has happened in the Flathead Valley anyone.

In a nutshell i am a huge fan of the race and racers however i will not respect anyrider that shows up in Banff by breaching any of the closers at this point. There is significant trail damage and calamity going on. While i am not part of the Admin it is time the Admin posts a re-route alternative that is going to be a big bad ass road timetrial from the boarder.

Kucey out.
I will post more info as it becomes available

The TD nor ACA have found a suitable detour. That is why none have been posted.

ACA is suggesting riders do not attempt to Canadian Section of the Great Dive Mountain Bike Route until we get the full details of the damage. It may not be rideable at all this summer.

The TD has folks scouting the damage further south, and looking into possible reroutes. Everything that has been scouted so far has been worse then expected.

Thanks for the update from Banff. And, sorry to hear the about the situation up there. Truly devastating.

Casey, I know the ACA has their Canada Divide Trip scheduled for mid July. It was going to ride that section. I was on the trip but had to back out. What is the plan for that trip? Not sure if you can share that info but I am curious.

This morning, we were trying to work around the damage. By this afternoon, we had all but given up. I do not know what the Tours Dept (and the staff of the event) will come up with, as its their call. But, we were discussing the possibility of running the tour through Montana instead.

It already starts at former TD racer Cricket Butler's new Whitefish Bike Retreat. So, leaving from there and heading the only direction you can go, south. But again, we don't know for sure and are just discussing options. Our Tour Dept and the staff of the event are pretty creative folks. So, we'll wait and see what the final word is from them.

Ran into Ralph "Yukon" Krauss on my ride home from work here in Helena tonight. He seemed in good spirits. He was looking for a bike shop so gave him directions and wished him well.

It is very cool that the route comes through Helena and is right on my ride to and from work. Have had fun meeting riders.

Thanks Woody, I'll have a look at that in the quiet moments between blue dot stalking.

And Canbaroo, I had forgotten about Saemi & Reto! Nothing cuckoo about that pair ...*groan*...

JP's ghost just entered the closed section. I wonder if he will receive a fine in the mail Smiley
It will be interesting to see how much faster the detour is for Jesse Carlsson compared to JP's ghost.
