Right now I am looking at Matt's map where bear activity is indicated very nicely. Is there a similar map or something for cabins, camp grounds, water, resupplies ec.? thx from Germany 5am ;-)... blue dots in my eyes...

Requisite "I know that guy" check-in. Pulling for my good friend and co-worker Kevin Campagna from Dallas, TX. Currently sitting at 140 miles and active according to trackleaders. I expect him to finish strong. He has a knack for what most would consider long term, mind numbing self destruction. I expect him to ride long days and miles rather than fast, "short" days. I was hoping he might start a little closer to the front, but man, Mike Hall and Craig are simply flying at the front! Looking forward to watching his dot after following the race many times before. First time I've had a personal connection.

A big thunderstorm just rolled through the south end here in El Paso. The area around Columbus, NM had some big puddles this morning and the desert around AW smelled like rain. If that area north of Separ got what I just got, Lindsay could find herself waiting for things to dry up. Cjell $ is rollin' out of Silver. He thought he had enough food roll through. As scrawny as he is, I believe it.

Wow, very nice, thanks a lot. Mike Hall's is one super slick setup. Loved it on his website already. So thoroughly thought through (dyno hub, lots of electronics) yet so tidy and lean. Also a kind of "innovative" front bag solution (no "classic" bar roll), he simply rolls up his complete sleeping system (bivy, sleepy and mattress) and puts it in that modified oversized backpack side bag.

Jesus, finally they stopped. Where did they stop now, is that "Butt's cabin" ? On Google Earth it looks like there are a couple of cabins, more like a camp ground or something? thx

That is the elusive Butts. Only the gonzo sleep at Butts on night-1. Scott has been hard at work coding a virtual records layer for the live map. If you go to the Map Layers drawer and select 'Record Locations', You'll notice JayP will be along shortly to snuggle up with Craig and Mike. I wonder if they'll stir when he arrives.

Ahhh, Mathewsen... you're such a wordsmith. By the way, I am (seriously) drowning my sorrows watching trackleaders tonight. Ideal conditions as compared to the last few years. Ugh!

My good mate Jesse carlsson has made a good start sitting in third. For those following the race Jesse is a two time world champion in BMX so he's showing he also has form on races longer than a minute. Expecting long days from Jesse and could be a dark horse

Great first day. Thanks for the pics puerzer. Always cool to see the rides and the riders. I'm impressed with all the riders, i'm pretty sure I couldn't do this event. Following my brother in law who made it to Sparwood tonight. Keep up the good work everyone. I think I may need to ride tomorrow even if it isn't for 100+ miles like the rest of you.

Now THAT is a kick-ass piece of programming! Very nice indeed! Not only men's record pace, but women's as well. IIRC, JayP did a mid-day start for his record-setting ITT last year, and took a break in Elkford. So, it's the split at the border and Whitefish that I'm interested in seeing over the weekend. Also, keep in mind folks, that Butt's cabin is something like mile 190 on the course ... that's quite a bit of xc riding for one day. Boo-ya Gonzo's ! Most racers are parkin' it in Sparwood tonight (mile 140-ish), despite the shear numbers that blitzed it to Elkford in 10hrs and under. And what's also telling is the number of dots beyond the turn at Corbin - 20+ and then I stopped counting. That's a healthy TDR peloton, for sure. Add another bit of interesting detail: the top 5 riders are not American (at least top 5 until the dots refresh). Possibly the 2 Aussies in spots 3-4 pushing to make Butts in one go as well.

Watching my husband's blue dot and a handful of others moving from Corbin over Flathead Pass. Hope that cabin can hold more than 2 riders!

+1 for the photos of rigs at the start. Thanks for that! Niner rigid forks sure are popular this year. Plenty of riders haulin' WAY too much gear, however.
