Legan was at Dirty Kanza earlier this month - that's some serious saddle time on behalf of the non-profit he's supporting (People for Bikes).

Hi all, wife of a 58 year old rookie Vel from Pittsburgh here. Nervous and shivering more than he is. So proud of him for even attempting something like this. My thanks to Craig Stappler and Mike Hall (and others from the small group) for their help and friendliness to my husband on their way to Banff. To all riders: be safe and good luck!

Nick indicated it was on the bike path. Maybe Matthew can chime in as to the impact.
Minimal impact, and no effect on the record book. Bike path parallels the road. It's only .4 miles longer than the main road. Frankly it's not great for inclusion in TD because it's frequently closed for campground work and (this time of year) bear activity. It's got some awesome high-speed blind corners, but posted speed is only 10mph.

Go Everyone! Super excited to be armchairing it this year. My wife and I will be racing next year (against one another). I've already got butterflies.
If the family of racers are chiming in here this year again it'd be great to share a bit of info about your dot out there. I personally think it makes the watching even more interesting.
Safe travels to the Nobos, Sobos, and the lone YoYo. Keep the rubber side down!

I just watched the race start. Big field! unfortunately no real mass start happened, as someone jumped the gun and more than half followed. I was divided between manning my own camera, running one of Larry's go pro's and running whatever camera people happened to hand me. I couldn't get the time for the divide race this year, but toured at a non-break-neck pace for 6 days, 3 on the gdmbr and 3 on singletrack east of the gdmbr. Amazing. Yosemite ain't got nothing! Pics soon, but bikepacking.net isn't making it easy...

Some pics from the south end. Weather was nice this morning but will approach the high 90's....which is better than the 100+ that we've been dealing with down here all week.

Certainly fast to start out ... leaders up and over Elk Pass within 5 hours. Amazing to see over 100 dots on the route.
Was just thinking that Billy Rice has had a nice peaceful NoBo run, mostly riding alone for days ... and then in the next couple days he's going to be inundated by SoBo peloton ... what a shock that's going to be.

And C$ goes helmet-less once again...
Trackleaders lists him as a rookie, but I think he is smart enough to have dropped his helmet in Silver City. No tricky descents before there.

Great start by Mike Hall - come on all you Brits! (and Max and Rudi - rooting for you too, old buddies)
Hugely jealous not to be out there this year, but still recovering from 2012 - hand/arm surgery 6 weeks ago to finally relieve TD nerve problems.
