The chase group seems to have made some inroads towards shrinking the lead of MH and CS...the gap seems less  pronounced this AM. MN is gaining nicely on JP's "ghost"....

Interesting twist: Stappler taking breakfast at the Hungry Bear Steak House and Hall catching up, but probably going to Holland Lake Lodge for breakfast. See who did the smarter pitstop!

Edit : after some 15 minutes of indecision he also goes to Hungry Bear!

Looks like Brian Steele made a wrong turn just past Eureka, hope all is well and he doesn't get too far off route.

**EDIT** He's back on track!!

I would say it's more likely that 225mi days thru MT are not sustainable for very long. Some of the best attacks to stick on this route happen during / after Helena-Lima ('on the first sustained downhill', so to speak).

It's  probably over a week away for the south bounders, but here's some discussion in regards to the La Manga Challenge.

Probably a bit of a contrast as to what was happening in Banff.

My son, BP, texted from Whitefish and his SPOT pinned him 11 miles north of there.  #spotfail   Frustrating for him.

Pretty sure there is a delay built in to the official spot tracking page, and the tiny little gizmo does have to have both a good location signal, and has to have a good lock to send a message back.

Remember, it reads a signal coming from space. And then sends that signal back to space where it comes back to get processed by the various software.

Wonder what the time stamp is from the point you reference? Same exact time as his text?

And why is this frustrating for him? Is he checking his position throughout the day? If anything, he knows where he is at any given moment. It's the rest of the world that has to rely on messages going back and forth to space to get their SPOT fix.

Yikes Cjell!  The big "R" we taped to your handlebar means "Right".  Get back on track, man.

Tom Lane called in from Whitefish. Ed Turkaly called in from Eureka. This call breaks up but he apparently broke a crank. Karlos Bernart called in from Roosville. Fred Arden called in from Eureka. He’s battling flats but otherwise doing good.Dan Sweeney called in from Cuba. Tom Lane called in from Swan River with a Father’s Day shout out. Eric Foster called in from Lula’s Cafe Whitefish. Cjell Money called in from Grants. And Max Morris called in from Whitefish.

Craig Stappler entered Ovando Montana at 1417 hours and is stopping for a quick lunch.  Says things are getting a bit easier but was questioning his decision the first 1 and a half.  He's about 5-7 hours ahead of record currently.

And the only thing scarier than having JP chasing you is having his ghost chasing you!

Wow, super sick times by the front runners. How long can they sustain this pace?  Time will tell....

So question - are the Single Speeders moving as expected or faster than expected? Is there good camping spots between Whitefish and Lincoln?
