Looks like Dan Sweeney missed a switchback in Northern New Mexico.

Kput - it looks like Eddie is right behind Scott, but it looks like Scott took a detour maybe for dinner - some kind of lodge on that lake - with Tom Borst. Maybe they'll catch up again.

Ahhhh your making me feel awful.  Had to close the shop at 5:30 so probably just missed him.  Sorry about that.  More updates starting at 0800 Mtn Time tomorrow.  Unless Scott chose to spend the night there.......

He's riding with my boyfriend, Brett Simpson, who has been getting intermittent cell reception - they're refueling in Ovando but planning to push on to Lincoln. I asked him to take a picture of Scott for you!

I'm not sure how seriously anyone should take Mike's recent twitter activity... he was 'in really bad shape' and 'about to scratch' every time I crossed paths with him in 2011 and he still smoked me on what seemed like just about every climb in CO. Talk about a humbling experience.  BangHead

Yes there are 6 of them in the same parking lot - I am thrilled for all of these riders!  THis is better than following the Tour D France!   I wish your boyfriend luck!

Just wanted to point out the excellent TD coverage over at HalfPastDone, courtesy of TDer Jill Homer:

I added halfpastdone to my RSS feed and liked it on Facebook to stay up with the (perhaps daily) updates.

Great stuff!  Love the piece on Kirsten Henricksen "Face of a Trail Angel."  A truly unique perspective.

Message delivered, Chris, and wish granted - Here's Scott McConnell in Ovando. That's an awful big smile for a guy on a single speed! Looks like they're on their way.

went out for a ride tonight and ran into Ed Fogarty and Hal Russell. Seems as if they are having a good time- looking for some pasta. And a bike shop- unfortunately they were a bit late for the ones in this town. Absolutely perfect evening after some afternoon showers cut the heat a bit.

I think that they should throw out the results this year. Not enough rain and snow to justify a true Tour Divide! I know some riders from last year and their pace is way ahead of where they were last year. I guess we need to drag out the snow machines!
Each Tour Divide is a very true Tour Divide!  :-)

zedmorgan - your boyfriend won't be in bad spirits riding with Scott M, that's for sure. He rode with my Scott on the TNGA and Scott said he is just the nicest, most encouraging person to ride with. I only met him briefly at the finish line but he's definitely good people! I'm so excited to see him out there killing it on the SS.

I saw this post about the drought in the west. Wyoming stands out as being pretty severely deficient on rainfall.

A question from someone who has never ridden, let alone raced the Divide.

What causes all the Achilles problems and what, if anything, can be done in terms of training to avoid them?

Thanks.
