Message delivered, Chris, and wish granted - Here's Scott McConnell in Ovando. That's an awful big smile for a guy on a single speed! Looks like they're on their way.

Edit: Made image smaller

I see the edit note of image made smaller, but I see no image at all. Did it disappear? Was looking forward to seeing it. Scott is my cousin and I have been following the tracking pretty close to keep up with his progress.

I am also following the single speeders.  By my calculations cjell money is leading that group even after his long over night in salida.

In less than 24 hours the Grand Depart of that other notable June bikepacking event, the 1450-mile Alcan Race, begins.  Organized by Dave (Beardog) Goldberg, the crowed field consisting of Dave will traverse the Alcan Highway from Fairbanks to Dawson Creek.  Stalking at http://trackleaders.com/alcan13.

May the bears be with you Dave.

How can you calculate the South to North to compare against North to South?  confusing - I would like to better understand how to track the SS class???  any advise would be great.

DW Blair send me a message and I can send you some pics of Scott on the trail!

Just curious if anyone knows what is up with Marco Nicoletti? His marker has been at the junction of 324 and Medicine Lodge Rd for 24 hours now. Maybe his Spot batteries died.

Lot of rain and hail here in Helena last night. Passed four guys riding my bike home from work last night. I was not envious but wished them well. Luckily most of the roads they will use in our area are gravel so they shouldn't have too much trouble.

In earlier posts some folks were commenting on how this race, with it's later start and better weather, didn't give the riders the True Experience what with nice warm weather and smaller snow packs throughout Montana.  Well rest assured the 2nd half of the group is getting that wet, cold, miserable experience that makes it a true Divide race.  In Ovando the highs for the last two days and today are only to be in the 50's, cloudy, rainy [1" in the last 2 days], cold breezes, thunder, lightening strikes, some super cell storms with large hail and high winds.....and mud!; all the things to bring about that complete package.  We've dealt with a few guys that have hit the wall with the weather being the final straw; but we find them a place to rest, refuel, give 'em the ole Ovando pep talk and push them out the door.    So far they are still "racing".

Has anybody heard from Hamish Mckee?? Last time I looked his Spot was stopped for like 17 hours in between Seeley Lake and Ovando. Hopefully it is just his batteries.

We have noticed that also.  We expected him yesterday.  We have NOT seen him in Ovando. Only 2 bikes are parked at the tepee and sheppards wagon for an over night and the blue dots show them to be Reinhold and Woods. Will post if we see him.

Talked to Reinhold Mueller who arrived at 9 pm and said he saw nobody along the trail.  Possibly Hamish's gps is dead and he came thru under our radar.  Hopefully we'll all find out.

Well, looks like Mike and Craig will be eating plate sized pancakes at the Wrangler together. Maybe Mike was able to stay warmer than Craig last night?? It was C-C-C-Cold and still is. (as JP already pointed out) They had winds coming into Cora Junction this morning too.

Dang. My Poor ole 2010 bud Forrest Baker getting caught in the wind and mud on Bannock again? That is one demoralizing spot for many a TD riders. He'll have some wind today. It's howling in Teton valley right now.

Jesse Carlsson called in from Colter Bay. Rich Otterstrom called in as he was leaving Helena. He recaps his stormy ride. And Greg Andre-Barrett called in from Helena. He’s getting some tendonitis looked at.

Jesse Carlsson is ahead of JP's 2012 record pace.  Pretty impressive performance for a rookie.  It will be interesting to see if he can catch Craig and Mike.
