Mikes had a remarkable few days in managing to pull back such a strong rider.
Will he pay a price, or is he in his stride now?

Looking at the tracker it looks like Hall is 1+ miles ahead. I guess there is a difference in when the tracker updates its position.
You're hovering over the blue dots in order to get the "X minutes ago" info, right? When the MH dot is "0 minutes ago", the CS dot at "5 minutes ago" is approx. a mile back. Looking at personal history of each rider, they are going 11.5 - 12.5mph, which means to me about 5min/mile which translates for me to "they are riding side by side or within sight of each other". I won't be surprised if MH pulls away slowly, though, based on his last 3 days of reeling him in. Good steady work at ridiculous daily distances. ITT Kerrin Walker gonna have some company this evening. |

Reminds me to TD2011, when Jefe Branham was catching Kurt at the beginning of the G. D. Basin. Kurt took a nightly rest near Atlantic City (after a very very long stage befor) when Jefe passed him in the early morning. They reached Brush Mountain Lodge together (and met NoBo Paul, Golden Spike) and Jefe and Kurt stayed more or less "together" nearly to the end. |

Looked at the Wundermap and looks like lots of thick smoke in southern Colorado. Wonder how it's affecting the Northbound guys? Nothing like smoking while climbing some Rocky Mountain passes!

Keep your friends close but your rivals closer? It would be easy for one or the other to sneak past during the night and push on. But Craig must be aware that Mike has it in him to close a 4-5 hr gap over a few days. I wonder what is going through their minds?

Donald: I was near the back as well in 2011. I know one Irish guy, also UK resident, who is making big noises about riding next year and will go well as he has bags of ability. Anyway, will add Liam to the watch list. Éirinn go brách and all that.

Re: the gap between Mike and Craig - Along with what mikepro explained via the timeago stat, Mike's using a Gen 3 SPOT device. it updates more often and has a stronger chip (more likely to work as it should), so expect to see Mike's dot ahead of Craig's by about a mile much of the time when they are in fact within reach.
I was surprised and impressed to hear Craig say he had to attack Mike so early in the race. Being reunited must be a sobering experience. These guys are gonna duel each other to a 14 day finish at this rate...

Bad News! Santa Fe National Forest will be CLOSED on Monday June 24. The ride between Abiquiu and Cuba is mostly in the SFNF. Here is the Albuquerque Journal article, and I also received an email from a ranger. http://www.abqjournal.com/main/212412/abqnewsseeker/santa-fe-national-forest-will-be-closed-to-the-public-starting-monday.html It might be possible to get a Special Use Permit, which I think would be better than having riders sneak through the barricades. Could one of the Organizers (Matt?) give me a call or email and I will put you in touch with the staff of one of our NM Senate offices who can possibly facilitate... More Ovando arrivals: Matt Bialowas - NY, Brian Steele - CA who is still calling Nancy at Holland Lake Lodge his trail angel for getting the brace after he fractured his lower arm, allowing him to continue on; Michael Komp - OH who was camera shy and left with his photo op and Dustin Hill of IA who is still determined after receiving road rash after a road rut took him out.

What a great race going on out there!
Not sure if this will come into play by the time the Nobos hit Canada or not but thought I'd share some conditions near the Sparwood area. Wife and I are here right now doing some bikepacking. There is a pretty strong storm cell up here right now. Glad the Sobos missed it all! Lots and lots of flooding right now. The Fording River road near Elkford is almost totally washed away. Will be at least a few days till they even try and get it open. Also the route south of Sparwood is in pretty bad shape. The Corbin road south to Flathead pass is falling away into the swollen river and is also closed right now. We just came back from that way, last souls out for the day, maybe longer. It's a disaster! Trees falling, paved roads washing away and the gravel roads gone in many places. Hopefully the roads are still here by the time the Nobos arrive.
