The raceflow plot is a good way to see lead changes, riding together, splitting up, etc, that is less prone to old data or differing update cycles.  It's still a little hard to tell, but sure seems like Mike is very slowly pulling ahead.

The best way to find out who is in front is to zoom in on two riders spot points.  Find a spot point from each rider that were taken in the same geographical location.  These points will have a time stamp, so you can see who passed through that location first.  The example below clearly shows that Mike is riding at least 7 minutes ahead of Craig at the intersection of the trail and Red Creek Road.

Bad News!  Santa Fe National Forest will be CLOSED on Monday June 24.  The ride between Abiquiu and Cuba is mostly in the SFNF. Here is the Albuquerque Journal article, and I also received an email from a ranger.  http://www.abqjournal.com/main/212412/abqnewsseeker/santa-fe-national-forest-will-be-closed-to-the-public-starting-monday.html
It might be possible to get a Special Use Permit, which I think would be better than having riders sneak through the barricades. Could one of the Organizers (Matt?) give me a call or email and I will put you in touch with the staff of one of our NM Senate offices who can possibly facilitate...

Thank-you, Nat for the heads up. To the online community following the action here: Please let's try to limit the discussion about this closure until the the facts & options have been gathered (privately). I'd rather this news not get to the riders until it absolutely has to, lest it be an unnecessary morale crusher. The trick will be to figure out how to request special consideration for something that *doesn't happen* every year. Please stand by...

everything will be fine. i been through 2 closures and talked my way out of pilot cars 4 times. when they get there they too will figure it out, if they have to. not to different then a lot of other things you deal with out there...any determined rider will get through anything...its all positive!

Last news from Ovando Montana for June 20.  Michael Mead - FL made it in after a very hard day.  Photos attached.  His Achilles on both legs is bothering him a lot.  He left Ovando around 1730 hours and was still running for Lincoln.  Helped him with a reservation at a local hotel since weather is still iffey tonight.  Received a call from Rocky Mtn Adventure Gear in Seeley Lake to keep an eye out for Jonathan O'Brien - WA,  "come off the top of the pass from 4 inches of wet snow in pretty tough shape. I got him in warm clothes and he is pressing on targeting Lincoln tonight. I see him on the ride map coming to you. If he shows up I hope he is in good spirits and okay physically. Maybe let me know how he looks if you see him."  He skipped right by us and we finally located him around 1800 hours at Trixi's restaurant.  Advised him that it would be easy to stay the night in Ovando and think about Lincoln in the am.  From the looks of his spot he took that advice.  No photos of Jonathan tonight.  We'll check on him in the am.

Scott Thigpen called in with that dreaded call no one wants to hear!
Joshua Weinfeld called in from Salida. He’s had a rough time from running out of food. Max Morris called in from Lima. He’s had to run single-speed for a bit, reluctantly. Rick Ashton called in from Helena. He got his derailleur repaired. Drew McIntosh called in from Helena. Alex Harris called in from Colter Bay. Andrew Stuntz called in from Lincoln with Brian Jett. And Karlos Bernart, the Naked Indian, called in from Helena. He’s been bunny-hopping cattle guards.

The problem is riding on interstate is illegal.

Not in many parts of the Rocky Mountain West. The interstate is frequently the only road available in an area.

I got thousands of training miles logged on I-70 back in the 90's.

The problem is riding on interstate is illegal.

I-25 is legal from Cheyenne to just north of Fort Collins.  It's the only alternative until the frontage road starts.

I was unaware that interstate travel was legal out west. I've lived in the east my whole life, and I thought it was a national thing.

Additionally, after catching up on the call-ins tonight, Scott Thigpen wins the internet. I'm at work, and I was in tears I laughed so hard.

Just spent the last few hours catching up listening to call-ins and reading over 10 pages of comments after being within internet service for only an hour or so over the last 4 days.  Hearing about Cjell's bike crack was of no surprise.  He laughed about his bike before taking off.  It's a crude looking beast made from unknown tubing possible cut from much larger junk frames found in the back of a shop somewhere.  Hopefully Mr. McClung got it squared away for him.  He appears to be headed into the wilds after Kremmling, so he's probably good to go.

Bummer to hear about Dan Sweeney.  One of the most expensive hubs on Earth...ugghh.

I also got a message from Karlos Bernart in regards to wanting/needing a new seat bag.  The message was 22 hours old...so sometime yesterday evening.  Anybody know what's going on?  I gave him my number.

Cjell went through Como about lunchtime, but did not stop.

2 years in a row, I am starting to think it is something personal!

He tries to carry a couple days worth of food with him. I don't think he stopped in Silver City this year...at least he wasn't planning getting anything more than water.

With Mike's training on Caerphilly Cheese and Brains' Best Bitter rocket fuel, Craig will have to do more than usual to catch Mike, but the best race will be won by the best guy. However, a certain amount of National Pride makes us root for Mike ........  Cheers !!
