We need help. A bunch of us from Melbourne, Australia that ride with Jesse Carlsson are keen to ensure that there is someone to greet him at the finish. His fiance was surprised by his progress and will be in transit when he makes it to the gate. We are happy to put up $200 to the person that agrees to meet Jesse at the finish with a 6 pack of (decent quality) beer. Any takers? I can organise a funds transfer but we need photographic evidence on the finish ;-) ...

If I lived in the area, I'd take up your offer without the money. Unfortunately, It's a long drive from Tennessee.

If no other volunteer turns up, you can always phone Sam Hughes in Hachita (575-436-2662 ; I am not sure about international pre-dials).
Sam is 82, but last year he still did shuttles from the border to Deming and Lordsburg with his Cadillac within your budget.
His business card reads : Prospector - Treasure Hunter ; Tires - Land - Whiskey - Manure - Guns - Gold - Snake Oil -Used Cars - Birth Control Pills - Mining Claims - Mules. I'm not sure if he can do a 6-pack.

Brad, Sam seems to more than satisfy the minimum qualifications to hand an Aussie a cold one. If you think we need anymore of those green-back things, give me a shout. They still come pretty cheap.

That is gold - I reckon we could be on to something. I agree a mule with a 6 pack waiting at the finish would be ideal...

Someone who knew him should send an obit to Adventure Cyclist.

Sad to hear. He served hundreds of bikers and hikers.

I didn't know him personally. I only knew of him and heard of his death second hand.

So no tinnies of Fosters?

Presumably it has to be ice cold.

001 is the dialling code for USA.

you might call Gila Bike and Sport with that offer.  575-388-3222.

They found a friend who shuttled us down there for $100 last year.

Call one of the motels in Lordsburg.  If he needs a place to sleep and stay they would probably know someone who could help.  Lordsburg is a bit economicaly depressed so I am sure someone would be interested.  Best of luck.

Also the little tourist place in Separ might be a source of someone who could provide a ride.  Does anyone know the name of that place?  That would be a good relationship to develop for future riders.

Yes, it may be worth a try. It is called Continental Divide Trading Post (575-546-3635 or 505-546-3635 ; the latter number is in the Offical NM CD Trail Guide). The store specializes in tourist curios; bikers only find sodas and small snacks there.
There is a car service station next to it, I guess for emergency calls from the interstate, that could do shuttle business.

What is Jesse's ETA at the border?
Quickly looking at remaining distance (eyeballing it, would be about 100 mi.), and Mike Hall's time to cover it yesterday from his log, I'd guess Jesse will finish between 1:30p and 2:30p MDT. Of course, that assumes no stops and he can maintain the pace.

Screwed that up I did! Looks like Mike took about 9 hours y'day after leaving Silver City. Jesse's just about there now, at 10 'til 10am. Agree with the downstream post that something around 7:30pm to 9:00pm is more likely, if he doesn't mill about in Silver City like Mike did yesterday.

He will be doing superbly if he is there by 6-7 pm MDT.
