Well said ML!
(though my input here is not a very 'constructive' one, I thought I had to emphasize my point)

Wow ML - I was just asking the question.......that is all. I am not complaining in the least - my opinion is if you are crazy enough to do this race you have to be completely prepared for anything that might come your way - my only concern is that people not be sent into a known dangerous condition...i.e. wildfires. And I perfectly understand that if they don't have a smartphone, don't ck their email, don't stop at businesses, etc that they are completely on their own. I was merely inquiring HOW people find out of the reroutes b/c obviously some of them knew ahead of time and Ethan obviously did not.

And, on a side note, you have to understand that there are racers out there with wives, girlfriends, parents, children, significant others, etc - MANY of whom read this forum and have SUPPORTED the riders mentally, physically, financially, etc. If you get to know any of these people (even superficially through social media and the like) I would suspect there are very, very few racers/riders out there doing this with none of the aforementioned support. So since I am the support mechanism back here at home, I am inquiring as to how riders would find out about reroutes because if you think for one second I would watch my husband ride into a wildfire laden area with no knowledge of the danger and/or reroute - think again.

I mean no disrespect. I can understand how tension builds at home. I have ridden the route 7 times (including many detours) so I understand what elements are in play. If family at home do not trust in the instincts of a rider, then perhaps that rider is not yet ready for all the challenge entails. These detours are not about active fires. Active fires would be manned by much more than orange / white striped road barricades. Fairness isn't always part of the Divide equation either. It's a jungle out there.

Updating since the Spot won't. Brian arrived at Silver City at about 3am. Slept a few and got on the road again at 7am. We all know he's not pushing for anything higher than 6th but thought those following him would want to know where he is.

This weekend was a busy one at Montana High Country Lodge.  The last north bound TD rider, Dylan Stewart and the last south bound TD rider, Ralph Yukon Krauss stopped in.  Also we hosted the breakfast stop again for the Camp-Mak-A-Dream / Ratpod charity event.  500 plus riders raise nearly $450,000. for this great charity that benefits children with cancer!!!!

I had 2 guys camp here who have spots, did the Grand Depart but are not on the Leaderboard because they could not find out how to make it happen.

Apprently there are others in the same situation.

Looks like James, Alex and Liam are all pretty much riding together and will finish 3/4/5 in the next hour.  I know people are wanting them to sprint but if they all come in 3rd equal, that would be a top result.  Special well done to James.  I am in awe of what you have achieved

Why not?

You ride as far as these folks have in the time that have done it in and as far as I am concerned the finishers can call it anyway they like.
