Hey fellow TDer's, I'm looking for a ride to the start. I live in Victor ID, and can get to Whitefish or the border, but need a ride from there, if anyone is going that way?
Thanks!

Yes, it's right around the corner! I want more time to get ready but on the other hand I want to get started already so I can see how it goes. It's hard to prepare as an east coast rookie. I got out on the Continental Divide this week but it's not the same on the east coast.

About the TD start list spreadsheet: I just spent about 40 minutes cleaning it up. Somebody had attempted to sort it and made an absolute mess of all the rows. Please, if you are not sure how to use a spreadsheet, or not sure how to use a particular feature, simply add your name and info to the bottom and I will do the rest. If you do mess it up by accident, please try to use the Undo command (Under the Edit menu) immediately. It's not the first time that has happened, but this time was particularly bad. PS: you may want to check that your info is back in the right row where it belongs. Thanks. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ami9kLAhoE7GdHNKN2xQSTA4T0JiRmMxaUJlc01UbEE#gid=0

I posted this over in the LOI forum but I'll re-post here: We thought about having LOI's called into MTBCast but no one has done so to date. That said, anyone who would like to call in ahead of time can do so. It might be nice to get some information on what you're riding, your goals, SOBO/NOBO, etc. Feel free. I can compile these for a pre-race show. Either way, please avail yourself of the MTBCast call-in number. It's a good way for people to follow and hear how you're doing.
Also, anyone who would like to call in any news or comments from the field or from your vantage point feel free. I know a lot of people post in here as the race is moving but if you'd like to call in feel free. I'd like to get as much information out as I can.

Is anyone using a Garmin Edge 800 for their navigation? I've been having some problems uploading the Way points file and would like to chat with someone who has loaded them successfully. Please contact me off list at chris [at] lpcb.org. Thanks!

Chris, I think most people on the TD use GPSs powered by AA or AAA batteries. The Edge needs a power source to be recharged (either an electrical outlet or a device that itself would need one, like a computer), and that can be a huge problem unless you can find a motel every night (very unlikely). Sorry not to answer your question (I don't know the answer to it), but I just wanted to make sure you knew the potential problems with such a GPS.

There is a battery/charger kit for the edge 800 which adds another 20hrs runtime and a solar charger. This should reduce the dependency on motels. Sadly I don't know the answer to the waypoints question either.

there is a charger available made by Gomadic, it uses 4AA batteries and you can get different tips to charge different item's. I'd recommend getting at least one spare tip in case one fail's. other than that it works great. I ordered mine from Amazon and received it the same week.

Hi,
Thanks for the heads up. Yes, aware of the power options with the Edge 800 but I have a small high energy external battery as well so I've got up to 4 days of riding between having to find a power socket.
How do those of you using other GPS devices (especially Garmin) handle the Waypoint files? Do you load them as individual files or as one large file?

I will use Garmin Vista Hcx but only as backup, hope to have to use it only for several minutes a day ( but who knows) ... the tracks I will manually trim down if there is enough time during next weeks, and split them.
Does anybody know how long the Spot2 will run ( in hours) on lithium batteries?
