Yep... The 2012 tour divide will see its first Israeli rider this June...
The training is going on slowly, and the bike and gear are being built right now.

I'm a bit confused about the addition of the Gold Dust Trail near Como, CO. If I understand correctly it was required for southbounders last year, but when I look at Scott's gpx file the track does not take Gold Dust but instead follows the regular ACA route. Will Gold Dust be part of the race route for 2012?

... good question, I was riding Gold Dust Trail last year, it was nice, but rather "untypicall" a Tour Divide route ... as far as I can judge. And it is also not mentioned in the ACA maps. |

Gold Dust never made it into the Rules, either. We'll see what happens this year. |

We didn't do the Gold Dust trail last year. I believe it was part of the plan but there was too much snow or something and it was dropped in the final route. I believe Matthew was pushing for it to be included so it may very well reappear this year, assuming better conditions. |

Thanks for the info on gold dust everyone...trying to get my head around this huge route! My main interest was if the course last year was different than the gpx track anywhere...or if the gpx track was spot on.

Thanks for the info on gold dust everyone...trying to get my head around this huge route! My main interest was if the course last year was different than the gpx track anywhere...or if the gpx track was spot on.
Last year an "official" track was available from Scott Morris, so if you followed it you were OK. I imagine there will be the same available later this season. |

I have an email from Matthew dated 6/9/11 that says "oh yeah...for years to come. it[Gold Dust Trail] will be the required line in the future". |

It was going to be required but snow pack left the trail unmappable (they couldn't get a good GPS track) until very close to the TD start. So, it was left out last year for fairness. I'm sure it will be on the track this year. Side note: We were given the cues for the trail and allowed to ride it as an option if we wanted to last year. |

I am going to drive up to Banff from Gunnison, CO a couple of days early. My parents will pick up their car as my Bro is in MT and they want to see him... Anyway I have room for a bike/riders in a Honda CRV to share gas $. It is about the same distance going up the front range or through Salt Lake (I'd rather go that way). Let me know. And I wasn't going to stop much to get there faster....

Sounds familiar. I/we (wife and I) have to be in Seattle in late May anyway and then we'll drive up from there. My wife is heading to MT for a family reunion afterward. After that... it's all up to me where I finish and how I get back to Seattle as well as when. Ugh! In any case, I keep forgetting that I need to make hostel or hotel reservations for us. Hmmm. At least this way, I don't have to worry, much about what to do with a bike box and such. It'll stay with the inlaws in Seattle. |

Christopher, Last year I tried many times to contact Carousel Design for info/map case. Not sure I ever did get a reply, but what I ended up using for TD '11 was the Bar Map of the Gods. Well, it's written as a touring guide and so has a lot of background historical info as well as general route info and basic bikepacking advice, but not much in the way of particulars about road conditions, services, etc. It's a good read, but will not give you an edge in racing the route. |

The book also tells where you can find water and supplies on the route but the surface water will vary year to year of course due to droughts. I enjoyed reading it, learning a bit of history on the route.

Question on .GPX files - I'm a mac guy, i've downloaded the ACA files for the route, but getting them to convert to readable tracks on my Garmin Oregon 450 isn't working. They have been read by Garmin and added to the part of the "route planner" .... but i need them to be added to the "track manager" ....any help would be appreciated.....
