My frame is cracked...I was warned and now its real(Superfly is Super Cracked). Considering my options right now, not sure if the warranty will be here by the time I leave and I'm not sure if I want even ride the new one if it gets here in time. Looking at Ti frames, see if I can't get a bike loan or something. Fuck, I feel like punching a wall.
Thats a big bummer! Hope you can resolve the problem and get a bike for the start. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Phil |

Last time I had a Gary Fisher (Rig) frame break (those things are quite common...) I went to a GF dealership, they called the warehouse right then and there, the new frame was shipped that day, and received the next. It took a few more days to make things compatible (different years, so different bottom brackets and stuff like this) but overall it was very fast. Of course, there's no Gary Fisher dealerships any more, it's all Trek  Best of luck, hope they can do it as fast as possible for you! |

That sucks, hopefully your shop knows your situation and explains it well to the warranty dept and they rush ship a frame out, I have seen Yeti do it for one of our customers who had a big race coming up so hopefully you get the same treatment from Trek, I have heard they are pretty good to deal with from a few so hopefully you have good luck. Like was mentioned, ask details about the frame they are sending and make certain all of your parts will transfer so you can find replacements if needed, things like seat post diameter, head tube sizes, bb shell width and style, what style/size front derailer you need, the way the rear disc brake attaches. I think that covers most of what you may or may not run into. Good luck |

Honestly I don't want to ride the Superfly even if the new one gets here in time because I am not confident in the frame anymore. I don't wanna be riding 3000 miles wondering if my frame is cracked or is going to break mid race. There weren't even 1000 miles on the bike yet and the frame was done...so what makes me think that it will last for the TDR? Trying to find a new bike right now. Looks at the Salsa Mariachi Ti or Steel. Whichever one I can find in stock basically. If you happen to know of a shop that has the `Ti` version send me and email, I'm not having luck yet. Dont blame you Foster, I knew Superfly frames were known for cracking but under 1000 miles is really bad. Good luck in your search for a new frame, hopefully trek will send you a new one you can sell to offset the cost of the upgrade.

A month or two ago, Slippery Pig Bike Shop in Phoenix AZ (Central Ave) had a Large Ti El Mariachi unbuilt frame. (arent you in Flagstaff?)
Not too sure if its still there, but worth a call.

Definitely maxed out the CC but it will be worth having a reliable bike for the TDR and all future races. Now I just need to build it up before I leave. Thanks to everyones help and kindness it looks like I will be able to pull off getting everything in order before I leave. Looks like the TD journey has already begun for me. I can't wait to meet everyone at the start and spend time riding with some of you.

Update for Del Norte: Patti and I (Gary) are on the ACA Divide map as a place to stay and get bike repair in Del Norte, CO. We will not be here for this years race as we'll be touring the GDMBR starting tomorrow. We're riding south to north from Del Norte to Banff. Stop and say hi when you pass if you have time. The other local sources for bike parts are Alpine Bike and Ski, 719 873-2495. Walter is willing to deliver parts to Del Norte, He's in South Fork which is 15 miles away. AMPeirce bicycles http://ampeircecycles.com/ 719 580-4525. Andy is a custom frame builder and has some parts and will also be willing to deliver if he's around. After you leave here there really aren't any bike shops until Silver City (or Salida if you're north bound). As of yesterday (5/28) Indiana Pass is dry but there are still a few snow drifts in the Ellwood Pass area. It is legal to sleep in the town park which is immediately south of the river and just west of 112 where you cross. The Country Family Inn motel is said to be a dump, not really recommended unless you really want a room. The historic Windsor Hotel has just opened (pricey) but they are booked as there's a movie being filmed in the area and they're using the whole hotel. Boogies cafe has reasonably priced diner food. The Organic Peddler has good healthy food but small portions for us. Jack's Market is on the east end of town and has a decent variety of groceries. I think they're open from 7AM-10:00PM. There are 2 gas stations with a subway in one and hot pizza in another. Best of luck to all of you. Ride safe! |

I will give a try NOBO too and before I go through the hassle with Greyhound plus the prologue riding to the border ... Unfortunate Gary merged with trek but who freaking cares now cause I'm getting a Salsa Ti frame! Just talked to the bike shop and the frame is on its way overnight! |

Just curious where these are breaking?? I have one that I will probably have to use and want to check it out now for cracks.... and yours is the last yrs model? Good to see you have a new frame in the mail!k How stressful. All your bags fit on the new one I hope.... |
