Hey TDRers, Just wanted to say good luck to all those racing this year. I'm super jealous I'll be missing this year, but I'll be back sometime with a vengeance! Y'all have fun, Parker Smith

Someone on-route in Steamboat wants to give discounts for massage work for ALL TD riders. I'd love to post the details, but am wondering if having people call ahead for a res. would break the "pre-arranged" support rule #2 -> http://tourdivide.org/the_rulesCan I get a weigh-in on that? It's a grey area and I don't want to post that info up if it falls on the wrong side. The res. is to make sure she's there. I don't think she'd be able to take camp out in her studio for 3 weeks, waiting for weary travelers to come a-knocking. I didn't ever call-ahead for a motel room while racing, but if that's a big NO, this would be as well.

You are correct—once the race starts you can make your calls/reservations. e.g. one might just decide get a room reserved for night 1 in Sparwood from 10 feet past the start while everyone else is huffing down the trail (limited hotels combined with local Miner Days celebration= no vacancy’s for the masses). Hee, hee hee--but if you do this— you might not want to mention it to “Beardog” while refueling in Elkford, or you might wind up with 8 racers invited to share your “last available room” good luck 2012 TDR Racers!!!!!! Tragically, my image of Simon, the rugged artist soloing his way across icy passes like a indomitable snowman, has been replaced by the image of a well-manicured gentleman calling ahead to schedule an appointment with his masseuse and aromatherapist.

Justin, what about the number for that massage?? My tired ass could need a massage by then. :-)
I think you could be a great TDR Commentator during the race, like on the radio in the old days. Doing a day by day. ;-)
Ride on!

I'm going to pass it through Scott and/or ML to make sure it's 100% kosher. I think it's a good idea to get things checked out, just as a preventative measure, if your knees are giving you problems. Some resources, like the folks in Del Norte are, "on the map" - listed on the ACA maps themselves, which makes them 100%, even though they're private. I think you could be a great TDR Commentator during the race, like on the radio in the old days. Doing a day by day. ;-) That would be fun - I wonder if they did that during the early runs of the TDF? See if MTBCast wants to work out on something. Def. funner if I could be on the course doing interviews with everyone with 40 points off their IQ from the racing effort. "Oh the humanity!"

How about the image of Beardog and 8 others smelly racers crowding half naked into a small room and getting a collective massage...

There was plenty of room w/me under that dirty dump truck up Corbin Road. After lookin at all those bear tracks all day, I would of liked some company. Figured bears didn't like the smell of grease & I was too tired to care. ha I'm wishing I was making another run with you all... Enjoy the ride!

Today I sat in an airplane and stared out the window for a few hours. It was pretty awesome. The San Juans are inundated with smoke blowing north from the enormous fire in the Gila. But The air between me and the descent down Carnero Canyon and into the San Luis Valley looked crystal clear. I could even make out the tiny La Garita store...

got my old neighbor Andrew Hazen heading north out of Roosville today to ride up to the start. He will be scoping route conditions and getting acclimatized after driving out from Maine this weekend. He stopped at my house in Livingston,MT for Monday and then we brought him up to Whitefish on Tuesday. My father gave him Ride the Divide two years ago and he decided he wanted to do the TDR. He is a 67 year old first time racer but he has been training for two years straight, riding 3 hours a day in all conditions right through the Maine winters. My dad has been blogging about his journey so far here: http://tjamrog.wordpress.com/Andrews spot tracker address: http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0sOeAZBRrEOp0xqS6veSzqK9LxOpIXoH2Go Andrew!
