A single speed is a good idea.

A fat bike of any kind is crazy because TDR is mostly a dirt road ride.  There are basically zero times when a fat bike would be anything other then a boat anchor.

With a single speed make sure you prepare for the riding and the hiking you will be doing.

Does anyone recall the name of the guy with a fat front setup who was pictured somewhere in this years TD discussion thread? I'd be curious to hear how that turned out for him.

I seem to recall that he had to bail shortly after the picture was posted due to an injury or some other unfortunate circumstance.

I still haven't caught onto the whole Fat Bikes are cool craze. I totally get it for snow/sand, etc. but as a form of suspension or just because they look cool.... not so much. However, as far as constructive commentary, I rode my Indy Fab Ti Deluxe 29'er with White Bros. Rock Solid fork the whole distance and really couldn't have been happier with the bikes performance. I had to change the chain once but everything else worked fantastically.
