Cue Sheets for both routes are now updated and can be downloaded here: https://tourdelospadres.weebly.com/ride--route-info.htmlRoute updates for this year: The bottom paved part of Santa Barbara Canyon Road right after Ventucopa (tour route only) has been completely re-paved and is now brand new smooth pavement. Big Pine Buckhorn Forest Road (both routes) has been re-graded as Gregg mentioned. Hopefully no rock slides and downhill walk a bike this year. Camuesa Connector trail (both routes) has been completely re-built thanks to SBMBTV efforts. Last year there were some sketchy wash out sections. Both routes this year avoid the recent Thomas Fire burn area, so as a result no Romero Trail this year unfortunately. But Jesusita Trail has been added back to the proper route to provide a little more singletrack. All this being said, I would expect faster finish times versus last year due to better road/ trail conditions. Winter has come late this year. Lots of rain predicted for next week.

Hey Gregg....according to the Los Padres Nat Forest website the Upper Osos trailhead is still closed (just checked again this morning)...I've been watching and waiting for it to open again. I've been wanting to do this ride again for a while now (upper Osos to Big Pine out and back). Where did you park? Sure glad to hear the road is finally fixed...went up it last fall and it was horrible!

Hey Matt! When are you going to do the TDLP? You've basically done the entire route. Upper Oso camp is closed. So I parked at the day use parking lot at the end of Paradise Road - just before the creek and Lower Oso area. The gate is closed to the OHV's but not to us! Enjoy - give it some time to dry because I did encounter some thick chocolate pudding mud at the top.
Maybe I'll see you out there again this year. I'm hopefully dragging my buddy along, I'll be slow because I'll be doing an ITT on the Stagecoach 400 starting 4/1. So I probably wont have enough time to fully recover - we will see.

Hey Gregg...I'm still not set up w/ a bike-packing capable rig (hopefully this year!). Anyway it looks like I'll be in CO Springs (again) for work...they shifted the trip 3 weeks forward (I was supposed to be up there already, but now I leave on the 2nd of Apr, get back on the 20th), otherwise I would definitely have been out on the route cheering on the riders (). As I found out on last Friday's ride, there's currently NO cows out at Painted rock this year (HOORAY!), but there are some just past the cattle-guard a mile or so past Painted Rock. There was one rather feisty cow, she stayed on the road and would run about 50yds and stop and stare at me...I'd stop and we'd have a staredown, then she'd move another 50yds...this went on for a while till she FINALLY ran off the road to her 'herd' (I'm pretty scared of cows since I got hit by that bull on Sierra Madre Ridge 3 years ago). There was at least 1 bull w/ this herd, but he wasn't a problem...didn't even see him till I was on my way back fm Santa Barbara cyn (my turn-around) and he stayed way off the road w/ his cows.

Oh, and Gregg...good luck on the Stagecoach! Isn't that a "no GPS" ride (cuesheets)? That one's a monster for sure! Stay safe!

Camuesa Connector photos from today. The recent storms have really started to green things up. No dust Looks like another storm hitting in a few days. Still a pretty dry year though. The Santa Ynez River crossing was a waist high swim last April, and as of today the crossing is still dry.

Does anyone have an idea about average times for the short version of this ride? I'm contemplating it and wanna verify it seems feasible in two days. Seems feasible to me based on mileage and elevation, but I'm just curious if other participants often complete the ride as a two day (as opposed to longer)?
Thanks in advance!

I put in my vacation request. Unless that gets nixed, I am in for the full route. Can't wait!
And...just like that, I'm out. Tweaked my knee in a crash yesterday and may be off the bike for a while.

Anyone ridden since the last rain? Looking to start on Tuesday 3/27 if it's not too early for trail conditions. Any local insight would be appreciated.

I would estimate 3/27 would be a good start. Last weekend I rode the Gifford/Gilliam area. Ground was wet/puddles but no mud issues. Weather looks good for next week. Gifford and Gilliam water troughs were not kept up. No water flowing to the troughs. Cattle in the spring area of Gilliam, for the most part a mess. Could be a long haul to Miranda on the proper route depending on the weather.

Art, are the Gilliam Spring area trails trampled out by the cows? I rode there in January and that one narrow section of trail looked like it had been trimmed a bit. It seemed wider than last year. But if the cows use the trails after it rains, they can really turn those trails into a bumpy ride. On another note, the finish line is looking good. The Brewhouse burned down last summer, but they have since re-modeled and the beer is now flowing again .

My friend and I are looking to ride that same weekend although we only have 3 days so we're going to do an adjusted route. We ITT'd the tour route two years ago so we're thinking this loop that does the bits the tour misses: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/1989308573Anyone experienced with the route know if this works ok? Anywhere to leave a car near Ventucopa?

This loop will be fine If you do some wine tasting at Sagebrush Annies in Ventucopa, I am pretty sure Larry and Karina will let you park at their place. Or you could park off one of the forest roads (Quatal Canyon, Apache Canyon or Santa Barbara Canyon).

Cool, we'll probably head out around 8am from Ventucopa on Friday at a leisurely pace. Wonder how soon before people start catching us...

Single track from Gilliam Spr to Gifford was good. Yes looked like someone trimmed some bush. My concern is water supply may not be available from Ventucopa to Miranda pine depending on Selby supply. Gilliam spring has not been kept up, water trogh had no flow and cattle were in spring area that was fenced off. Gifford trough was no flow. I did ride up Gifford drainage towards spring, next drainage up from spring drainage had some flowing water but there was cattle tracks also.
