Sign up is up and running: https://form.jotform.com/trackleaders/lospadres18Art, in January there was a little flow in Gifford. I am surprised Gilliam has no flow and we just got a ton of rain last weekend. That spring has always had flow. I might be going out to Carrizzo Plain this weekend. I will see if I can drop some gallons at the visitor center.

I also thought of water cache at Gifford trailhead for the climb up Miranda pines.

There is also a small stream at mile 125. I filtered water here last year and it was flowing well. I have seen water here in previous years too.

Oh Boy!!! I have signed up to join in the grand depart. And for extra fun, I will do an ITT from the Brewhouse back to Frazier Park!
Decided to use my adventure bike since I can easily carry more water and travel faster. GPS is ready, spot is ready, now to get the body and bike ready.
See you all at the start! Phillip

Just finished Proper route on Friday. Very fun and Plenty challenging. Kudos to Erin on a fine adventure. Here are a couple notes: Didn't check water at 113 and was not able to find any at 125. First water after Ventucopa for me was at 133ish in a trough still half filled from recent rain. Did not go to Gillam Spring but there was very small rivulet running at 135.5 turn to left. Miranda Pine Springs mile 151 is confirmed water. Water was more frequent as noted on cue sheets after 195.7 Lastly, I forgot to reduce the Proper Route for my etrex20 down to less than 10000 points so the route ended halfway - ooops. Of course I had the cue sheets, Gaia phone app back up and the Tour route on the GPS once it joined back in. Also, the public transport option worked well on Amtrak bus from SB and Kern transit to Frazier Park.

Nice work Joe! I just got back from car camping at Carrizo Plain. It is nice and green out there but very few wildflowers. It is not going to be a superbloom year like last year. But the good news is that there will be way less tourists out there. I confirmed this morning that the water spigots at Selby are flowing. Also I set up 2 water caches just to be safe. I will send out the details on these a day or two prior to the group start

Just read the post from Art on the Gillam Springs area water situation and it made me suspect the "small rivulet" I saw in passing at 135.5 was just leftover moisture and puddles in the drainage from the rain. I didn't want anyone counting on this one in the coming weeks as it seems Art has taken a better look around. My apologies for any confusion.

Just a few notes regarding route options: If you are doing the tour route and decide to add any portion of the proper route, that is fine. Tunnel Trail is an option for the proper route (trail starts at mile 241). I don't recommend this trail (it is a super technical trail). But if you have downhill technical riding skills and you want to stay on dirt versus pavement, then go for it. For both routes there is an option to ride on the wet sand along the beach. This is only recommended at mid to low tide: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27162219Here are tide charts, looks like the beach option will be doable from about noon to 7 pm Saturday through Monday. Will be a scenic way to finish.

So I'm in for the tour route making the group start. Not planning on the spot/trackleaders thing, but planning to stop by the breakfast place and see everyone at start time.
Anything else I need to know that isn't on the website and this thread? What's the scoop on trail conditions should it rain near the start?

Will send out an email to all registered riders about the shuttle. If you are not planning to register, and you want a spot on the shuttle just let it be known here if you want a spot on the shuttle.
Weather looks good for next weekend so far, but it looks like it will be a cold start in FP.

Hi Erin, please sign me up for the shuttle from SB to Frazier Park too. Do you happen to know the average time the people took to complete the proper route last year? Thanks!! , Aaron Sas

Marin and Aaron got you down for the shuttle.
Proper route finishers last year were typically between 3 and 4 days. Jeff K. completely destroyed the route in about 37 hours last year, but he forgot to (or didn't need to) sleep. Would be interesting to see if anyone tries to beat that time this year. The course will be riding faster this year, so it could be possible.

I've been following the replies and am considering doing the proper route. However, I'm from Idaho and not familiar with the terrain/trails. I am curious how well "on" the GPS track is throughout the course...I have been on other events when my GPS unit shows me off track (have E-Trex 35T) when I actually am on course (usually in thick trees or valleys...was also told by another course director [different event] that condensing the information into a GPX file can also cause this to occur)...I plan on using my personal Spot... Thanks

I do not simplify the track, so the track should be very spot on. That reminds me - you have to split the track into several tracks to get it to load onto a Garmin (at least for an Etrex 20). If anyone does not know how to split the tracks into several tracks I can do that and post it here. Just let me know. If you have a microchip inside your Garmin, you do not need to split the track.
