Erik's bike repairs are unfortunately going to set him back considerably today.  Matthew and Blaine have both been moving since ~5:30, but hopefully Erik was able to sleep for 7-8 hours.  More sleep really does equal more speed (to a point)!  It's a LONG stretch between bike shops in Butte and Steamboat, so it's impressive that Matthew and Blaine were able to keep down time to a minimum as they passed through Steamboat.

Derek Richert, Dave Preston, and Brad Perry all lost time this week going into Jackson, probably to deal with mechanical problems.  It would be interesting to know what they were fixing.

AmyL, Palo Alto

Brad Perry's rear derailleur broke and he had been riding pretty much as a single speed for the last day and a half

Dave Preston missed a turn at Boulder, but recovered pretty quickly.  He lost one hour.
At about the same time, Brad Perry missed the turnoff at Brooks Lake and has continued on the pavement.  Hopefully he notices very soon so he doesn't have too far to backtrack  BangHead

Hi all,

Here are a few pictures from the start in Banff (if the attach feature works properly).  The bike is Kent's rig.  If someone can give me an ID and email for the "gunslinger" I can send him a copy of the full size file.

Great pics, always nice to see setups and faces to go with the call-ins. I am interested in what Kent is running as a rear bag...pretty sure he had a corroplast trunk box at some point. I might have to trawl his blog for some info I might have misses.

Kent's call-ins are priceless, makes getting up early in the morning before work worth it sleepy1  thumbsup

Kent P is running an Ortlieb saddlepack, looks like a large. Pretty nice bag. Waterproof if you roll it right.

When asked about the trunk box, Kent said that it "had too much room"!

Brad Perry has backtracked to the start of the Brooks Lake section.  Ouch.  He must have been having so much fun riding that ~1500' paved descent that he spaced out.
If I was Brad I would have just collapsed at the Lava Mtn Lodge in tears and called it quits.  But he just turned right around and rode back up that mountain.  Amazing.
He lost 2 hours - ~30 minutes descending, and ~90 minutes backtracking up the hill. thumbsup

Wow, it's blowing 21 gusting to 34mph at Breckenridge - even at climbing speeds, that's got to be a drag.

Winds swinging to the WNW tomorrow at Salida, so maybe they'll get a break and a bit of a tailwind.
