I'm afraid I have bad news to share. Dave Blumenthal was in a serious accident with a car this morning in Routt County. He is in the hospital now and I believe his family has been notified. I spoke with Routt County Search and Rescue about the situation and they couldn't share news about his condition, but they did say he was "severely injured."

If I learn anything more, I'll share it here. For now, let's send prayers/healing energy Dave's way.

Dave Blumenthal was medevaced to Denver where he is in stable condition with a serious head injury.  He arrived at the hospital within the hour.  His wife and daughter are now enroute to Denver. His family have all been contacted, but it is too soon to know how things will go.  Our thoughts are all with Dave as we wish him well. I will try to update here as the situation unfolds

I passed Dave up in the snow in Chrystal Park . He was very upbeat and enthusiastic about it all . This not a good thing to hear . I hope everything turns out well for him and his family .

This is one of the pictures Marshal sent last night.  The snow was on Fleecer Ridge and the rider I believe is Aidan.  There are a few other pictures on his blog.

Can you post a blog link?

Terrible, terrible news about Dave Blumenthal. I hope that he fully recovers and lives to ride another day.

edit: I just listened to his last call-in. Makes it just that much harder to imagine him at the hospital right now. He's obviously one tough guy--a trait that will hopefully serve him well in the tough days ahead.

Hi all,

Here are a few pictures from the start in Banff (if the attach feature works properly).  The bike is Kent's rig.  If someone can give me an ID and email for the "gunslinger" I can send him a copy of the full size file.

Bob

The "gunslinger"  thumbsup is Pete Faeth.  Cindy's email is cindyfaeth@gmail.com.

This is really wrenching to hear/read. Thanks Pete B for shepherding information this way as its available/appropriate. It's never easy to hear about someone involved in a serious bicycle related injury and this hits particularly hard. Its terrifying that this can happen, even though we all realize the potential each time we step out the door on our bikes. In my mind it takes a great deal of courage to simply step foot on the divide with the intention of traveling its length. Hopefully Dave will be able to tap into the courage and strength he has demonstrated along his journey to make speedy and complete recovery. My sympathy and support goes out to Dave and his family.

Praying over the Blumenthal family for peace and comfort, and for a super natural healing over Dave.

Psalm 46:1-2
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea

2 Corinthians 1:3-5
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

live from the trail... met four racers today on the "hills of horror" (my name) after rawlins. marshall (first pic) was way ahead of the others and will probably be at bush mountain lodge already. he wasnt too happy about his saddle and might be looking for a replacement in steamboat tomorrow. the others were going strong as well, some plan to ride on into the ninight after dinner at the lodge.

go racers!

oh and btw... wymoing sucks when you come right out of colorado :-).

Our prayers are also going out to Dave.  Do they have any family in the Denver area?  We live about 2 hours away, but I can offer assistance if needed.
