Tour Divide 2012 "official" GPX files are Available

Matt asked me to scout out the Gold Dust Trail. Here is a report on it. Good luck to all .Off the top go a quarter or a third of a mile and hang a ralph at solid treeline. Enjoy immediate cover from storms, a water source, no cars and hopefully new brake pads. Jostle your goods a bit at the top and the trail gets smoother and mellower, cross a fire road, jog 10 feet right{sign}, enjoy. No confusion, the single track ends on the first and only major dirt road, unless you want the lower section. Hang a left on  said major dirt road fast 2 miles,  signs to Como say 3 miles.
 This section will remind you are mt biking but is not technical at all, it will put you back on balance, it drops 1300 vert with one abrupt 10 foot up hill. This is new on the radar for the locals and  a classic. If it is raining please stay off it, if there is lightning it is a great bail.

Will the new track,(I broke it into 20 tracks of 500 points each) plus the Great Divide Book 5th printing 2010 be adequate for getting by? book weighs 11 ounces plus I can cut out some fluff before I start and toss pages (responsibly of course!) as I move along at my tortoise pace.

The "error" in Como is indeed a minor one, but I am a bit confused about the FR 212 detour.
I can't find any information about this new part of the route, which seems to avoid FR 212, for what reasons ever. What's the sense of this part ... maybe another single-trail like event?

Nein. FR 212 has been modified due to extensive logging in the area. The old route took you onto the highway for a short distance, and then one turned right on FR 212. This is no longer the case. .1 mile BEFORE reaching the HWY turn a hard RT uphill on the "new" (with sign) FR 212. It connects with the "old" FR 212 after a few miles. Just continue on FR212 into radium. Basically, out with the old, in with the new.

that is the section I asked about in the other TD thread.

At mile 155.6, the north end of FR 212 is now closed and unrideable. A new road has been built to connect FR 206 to FR 212. You no longer need to turn onto State Hwy. 134 to reach FR 212. At this time (Oct. 2011) there are no maps available to view this new connection and we haven't been able to collect mileages or see if signs are installed. If you can get this information and send it to us it would be appreciated.

10k detail is enough -- if you use the 10k file I posted, or simplify it yourself using TopoFusion (no guarantees if you use another software to upload or simplify).  Quite a few people have successfully navigated the divide w/ a TF 10k track.

If I were doing the divide I might just split it into two files as you suggest.  You won't get lost because of the 10k track, but in some cases you might get a little nervous that you are getting off track, only to zoom out or pan ahead and see you're good.

I split mine into 2 files.  That way I get a little better detail for the race.  Only took me 2 seconds to split the track.  Also it is an interesting note that the first 650 miles take up 10000 waypoints...and the last 2100 miles take up the last 9000 waypoints.  Must mean that the northern section needs more detail due to more turns and curvy roads, just my guess.

Would it be worth it to, or has anyone fine tuned the gps track of this year's tdr? I was looking at it zoomed in and there are some funky turns in it. Probably no big deal with the cues and or zooming out like Scott wrote back in this thread a few days ago.

Tried to make GPS-files for all the refuel points of the Tour Divide Race. If there is a more complete list of all the food/waterpoints of the GDMBR, please let me know, so I can add them to one of the following links. Also possible detours (in case of a forest fire) would be a nice addition.
