I couldn't imagine planning so early.  To much time to think about the race, the anxiety from deciding to enter 2 months before the TDR is long enough, I can't wait for the start any longer.  But its great you guys are already planning and getting psyched for it.
For me, it was just the opposite. I made the decision more than 1 and a half year ago, which means end of 2010, to go for 2012, i.e. starting next month. My reasons: spouse, kids, employeer and a lot of other things. Once the decision was made (which includes the "go" from the people mentioned), I got focused more and more on that crazy event ...

I know this may be just a -little- in advance, but is there any one else planning on riding the divide in 2013? Thought it might be good to have a place to discuss planning/training/crap! I've just started writing a blog of my exploits (which are pretty benign, so far....) if anyone was interested: http://folgesvenn.blogspot.com/

See you down the road...

(mods, feel free to delete this if it's inappropriate)

Hey there, I just ran across this thread and thought I would chime in. My name is Wil. I will attempt to do the TD SoBo in 2013. I will read on and see what is being said here and will continue to contribute to/for those that plan on a '13 TD.

Thanks, Wil

.. for me it is the 14th of June as well. I need to book the flight from Germany latest in September to have a chance of getting a sheeper one.

Well if nothing else, it'll be the two of us on the 14th, haha.  I'm in for then, anyone else good for the 14th??

I don't see why it wouldn't be the 14th. It follows the standard format of the second Friday in June. I will be there (sans any shortcomings on prep) ready to roll. I saw the Ride the Divide movie at a showing where Dave Tremblay (TD rider 2010) hosted it. I know him from other local events. I was completely hooked. I mentioned it to my wife and she easily gave me her support. All the hard parts are up to me now. I have a blog if anyone cares to follow along in my preparations. I like the community feeling of an event like this.

very excited - my wife gave me her blessings and wants to see me do it as well.

I am planning on doing the tour divide in 2013. Longest rides or races haces have been the Leadville 100 four times. I am 63 years old so will be 64 for the 2013 tour divide. I am training and trying prepare for it.

Glad to hear that you guys are planning already. I originally wanted to do TD in 2012 but the stars didn't align. I am actively gathering stuff for TD '13. Anybody have a grip on cues, sleep spots, refuels, etc.? That is something I really need to start paying attention to. I will probably get a bit of it from following this years' MTBcast.

I recently bought a new KHS Team 29er (carbon hardtail) with intention of getting it equipped for the 2013 TD. Not much room for a frame bag. I race some single track so the intention was to get a bike I would use for both. Found it isn't any better than my old KHS Team 26 full suspension for racing. I am probably stuck with this bike (low budget) so hoping I can make it work. Looking to have someone customize a frame bag for me. Any ideas?

I've been keeping an updated list of bag makers on MTBR:

I highly recommend Scott Felter of the Porcelain Rocket. He has made bags for me and they are beyond expectation. Great to work with as well

I have heard rumors that there may be some sort of lottery or other limiting participant system going forward as there was never supposed to be this many racers....or someone never planned for this many when they thought this thing up. 75 is the limit for unpermitted events in the National Forests, and I would imagine that would be the limit for the Grand Depart. Just a heads up. This better be resolved soon as it sounds like a lot of people are already gearing up. Anyone else hear anything like this?

I don't think it is an issue, being that all the riders are spread out after a few 100 miles.

Anyone else riding the TD in 2013 from England?

Well here I am, planning has begun.  Although because I have all my gear dialed from this last attempt planning should be very easy for me this time.  Less stress and research to do now that I have been on the divide route.

See everyone for next years Divide Race

I will be in Banff on whatever day the Grand Depart is set. The decision to race carries with it some implicit, permanent, and much-needed changes in lifestyle. I'm 42; 16 years and 80 pounds past my last sub-3:00 hour marathon. I've lost 18 pounds so far and my mileage continues to climb. To further cement my noob status I am a lifelong roadie who will be taking delivery of a Gunnar Rock Tour in July to begin learning the art of MTB. At this point you may be considering trying to talk me out of racing the GDMBR. Please do not bother. I will hit my weight. I will log the miles. I will sort my kit. I will scour the route. I will see you there. Check my progress at http://seanbrinker.blogspot.com.

I don't like the sound of that though I understand the need. Who would make that decision; the ACA or is their another sanctioning body?

I also hope there is not any type of limit on the number of people allowed to start at the Grand depart for tour divide 2013. I have been planning this for two years and sure plan on being there for the 2013 start. Following this year's race has been great, can hardly wait till next year!

If there is a drawing or lottery for the GD next year, I'm willing to start a day early on Thursday.
