Hi all,
I'm new to the forum but will be in Banff on the 14th and can't wait to see you all (SOBO'ers anyway) there!
Just a follow up on Ron's question I'm also wondering about the LOI's? Site has been down for some time now.
In addition can anyone with experience comment on the process of SPOT registration?
Thank you!

ciao!
a new question!

to go in Banff from Calgary airport I've found this option: http://www.banffairporter.com/
any other solution (cheapest is better!)
I'm in Calgary on june 9th (at 10.30pm) and I've one bed in a 8 bed room at the Banff Y lodge from this date...
thanx for suggestions!

If you pre book with the Banff Airporter (1 888 449-2901) give them the "Tour Divide" discount code to save some money (thanks Matt!). The cost is about $50 with the discount.

Damn, I've booked my transfer yesterday. Of course without the discount code.  angry4

Another question for the TD Vets - Is it overkill to make a short list of services with phone numbers and location within each town. Or, would I be better served to do that in the "smaller towns" as the full service towns have plenty of service on route? How did you guys know where you wanted to resuply when you stopped in a particular location?

Thanks

I did that for small and off-route places.  I figured the larger places where the route passes directly through would be easy to check out in person.  Still, anything with the potential to save time and brainpower is good (brainpower tends to be in short supply late in the day).

Load the .gpx file into Topofusion... convert to .kml (do "save as" .kml) and import into Google Earth

Zoom in on the route and most businesses start popping up.

 Hello GDR Enthusiast.
I'm Planning on Joining tour Divide at the at the rooseville border crossing, jumping in and riding as much of the route as I can in three weeks, does anyone know the "official" canadian start date is?. Also I'm also looking for a gps map file of the entire route. I'm bad at detailed planning and just planning on suffering for three weeks straight, I think having a gps and not worrying constantly that im lost will help me keep keep moving. Anyhow for when do I buy that am-track ticket?
 Thanks

Hello to all,
For all you 2013 Tour Divide riders, I just wanted to distract you from your training schedule with a few videos of my experience from last year.  If you’re looking for winning tips, they’re not in the videos, I was last.  If you’re looking for a preview of the experience and some inspiration, then pop some popcorn, be ready on the pause button to read the commentary and have a watch.
If you just want to see what to expect at the YWCA start, only watch the first video.  If you want to know what the finish line looks like so you won’t accidently ride by it, watch the last video.  If your over 55, and you need to pee every hour and a half, you may find my blog on my TD 2012 helpful.  I list all the restrooms on the route, http://jimtdr2012.blogspot.com/ .  Just kidding, but it may be helpful for the AARP riders.

But really, you don’t have time for this nonsense, go ride!

Seriously, I owe much of my success in finishing my TDR 2012 adventure to learning from other people’s TDR experiences.  So I thought I would return the favor and offer my experiences in hopes of helping future riders.  I benefited greatly from all those who went before me.  I feel like I stood on the shoulders of giants.

Still nothing on the SPOT registration/rental? I sent an email over to trackleaders, but have yet to hear back. If anyone knows of a link to it that I am some how missing it would be greatly appreciated.

I got the e-mail last night from Trackleaders and have registered. Here is the process:

Trackleaders.com is ready to collect SPOT info from those who will be tracked on the live map. Submission is for all challengers, ITT and GD alike.

ALL generations of SPOTs are accepted for use in TD: SPOT-1, SPOT-2, Connect, and now, SPOT3--yep, there's a brand new model of SPOT (called "gen3") coming out next month. See attached pdf. Delivery of the Gen3 is slightly delayed, but SPOT hopes to have them available by June 1. If you are interested in purchasing a Gen3, email me back soonest.

You can begin SPOT registration here by paying their modest fee for inclusion: http://trackleaders.com/tourdivide-checkout

Trackleaders also offer rental SPOT-2s.

Once you pay with Paypal you'll get an e-mail. Works seamlessly. You should also do a 100 x 100 pixel avatar and send it to Trackleaders. The Spot 3's look amazing with much longer battery life.
