I think someone once called this the most expensive free event in the world.
There will be many incredible parts of the Tour Divide, but one of the MOST incredible will be a racer's intake of gas station junk food, and the slightly curious weight loss on such a diet. |

You can use your own Spot unit and your own subscription, but I believe you must have the Tracking option, which costs extra. You cannot use your own unit with no subscription, I don't think. If you have all that, you just send Trackleaders the number from the inside of your unit. |

Thanks Bobm. Yes, I'm just signing up through trackleaders and they ask for a "Spot Shared Link Page URL" which I think you have to have a subscription through SPOT in order to get that page. Bummer, another $100! haha

Check with Trackleaders - it might be more than $100 if the Tracking option is required - that option costs extra from Spot. |

It's $100 for the subscription plus an additional $50 for tracking per year.
And you do need tracking 4 track leaders to work with updates every 10 minutes.

I've payd 30$ from the link and followed all the instruction (personal data, mail, link to my spot page..) but no mention about subscription and extra 100$ to pay...

For those of you who don't know, I am Kirsten...I run Brush Mountain Lodge in Slater, Co...just over half way when you are southbound...
I've been watching the start list stack up and it looks like another exciting year!!
So, with that in mind, I thought i'd drop a note here and let you all know that I am back on the mountain, and I will be here for the race again this year. Matthew and his family will not be here...sorry for those of you who are disappointed!
Anyhow...some things about what I have up here...
There are cabins for rent, as well as a couple of campsites. Showers, and laundry are available as well...
I will have food...burgers usually, or breakfast...and veggie options when i can...
The meals are by donation, so please come prepared to pay what it's worth to you. We accept credit cards now, but we prefer cash...(who doesn't?) (:
If you are coming in late (if your spot is on, i'll see you coming)...I will do my best to stay up and feed you...however, if you are pushing up here really really late, i will likely leave you a note with directions to a bed, and see you in the morning...(:

Also! If you TD hopefuls need some more inspiration, Switchback Mag recently did an article about the Long Ranger here ( Part #1, Part #2). Been quite a bit of late snow precip. in CO high country! Maybe looking at some snow slogging this year, after all! Hurrah! (OK, kidding...) |

Ah ok! I have a subscription with spot service, and i have my shared page... If i have understand i pay only 30$ extra to trackleader Uff my english is not so good and i have some weakness to understand all the things i read! ;-) |

Yes, Scott Morris emailed me to confirm that you do in fact need a subscription through SPOT, and you need the basic service and tracking ($150 per year). This is totally separate from Trackleaders but you need the services from SPOT in order to be tracked by Trackleaders. Hope that clears it up and will help others with the same questions!  |

Hi guys,
This is a difficult post to make. After a year of planning and preparing to tackle the Divide in 2013, injury has ended my hopes before I could even make the start line. I managed to dislocate my right kneecap during a heavy week of training at the beginning of April. Although I've done everything in my power over the last few weeks to try and recover, I've had to face the reality that my knee is not yet up to full-power efforts on local training rides, let alone tackling the Divide.
Throughout my years riding bikes I've been relatively lucky in avoiding injuries, so although the timing of this one is bitterly disappointing, I have to try and be philosophical about it. I see this injury as a setback: my desire and drive to pedal the Great Divide is as strong as ever and I will endeavor to line up in 2014.
I wish all the 2013 riders the best in their efforts — I will be watching your blue dots attentively, wishing I was riding alongside you. Until next year,
