I am looking at the Narratives right now. They say Narratives 2011. Do they match up with Scotts 2012 GPX file? Or do I need to look at the addendas for 2011?
Thanks

2011 is the latest edition of the maps. Yes, you have to check the addenda.

If 2011 is the latest edition of the maps, and Scotts Gpx file is based off that, and the narratives are 2011, why would I need to use the addenda buying the most current set of maps/cues? Sorry I am confused Bob.

Not sure about the cues, but the maps were published in 2011, so they do not include any updates after that point - the updates are contained in the addenda. If there are no route changes in the addenda, then Scott's file is good to go. Usually the addenda have things like stores closing, phone numbers changing, etc.

So basically fuse the 2011 and later addenda with 2011 narratives/maps and it should match scotts track. Got it
thanks

Just a thought rolling around in my brain for the last couple days: Is a NOBO finish the same as a SOBO finish in terms of the Triple Crown? Logisitically and financially NOBO makes a lot more sense in my situation and is a huge cost saver as far as transportation to start and returning from finish as there is a vehicle needing returned from Banff from a SOBOer I know.... Just pondering the idea and thought I would throw it out to the "official governing body" of our little underground world

I've got a bunch of them US$25 a week or part thereof + postage back to a NY address.

Just pondering the idea and thought I would throw it out to the "official governing body" of our little underground world My take on the Goldberg "rules" for the triple is show up for the race on the race date and time for each triple event. I interpret that to mean that going backwards at the same time/date in any of the 3 events counts. And that just doing an ITT outside the race date/time doesn't count towards a "real" triple, thus that's what makes a triple so hard. You have to be able to complete the third event in the timeline, which makes for some beat up CTR riders so far in the Triple's history. I figured you already knew most of this, as why would anyone endure the puking, pain, fainting, heat stroke dehydro ordeal you did? Why not just restart for an ITT in AZT750? You knew the triple was on the line, so you didnt quit. You are an animal, or insane, or both.

Okay. Can I iron out a few details in one post? I am a newbie to the TDR and bikepacking in general, but have plenty of tours. I've been riding more miles this year in preparation for this race, but I've got a few gear questions I cannot solve:
1. Has anyone used a spot connect for tracking before? 2. What is the usual light setup for riders? My bike lights require carrying an extra charger, which is annoying to say the least. 3. What's the split on running tubeless vs tubes? Big advantage either way, or is the fact we,re riding more gravel than trail mean thorns aren't as big of worry? 4. Jones h bar vs straight bars with aerobars? Thoughts? 5. Anybody convert an XT cassette to run a custom 42 tooth cog? Results? 6. Are bike shops along the route (I know there are a few good ones) all gonna stock the basics like bb7 pads, chains, and solid tires?

Check out the 'Gear Survey' from the 2013 race in Cordillera v5. Answers a lot of your questions.

Hey Chris,
I got a question on one of your earlier posts. You said that Garmin Street Maps are pretty handy for services and such. I was going to run Garmin Topos already, do you thing if I ran both tops and street maps it would slow down the Etrex 30 too much?

Hey sorry for so many posts back to back, but I have one more question. I am running an Android phone and I've heard of people loading the track some how onto their phones. What app and how do you do this?

I have an I phone and downloaded the Gaia GPS app. Works on an android as well. $20, dirt simple to use, and I knew nothing about GPS units until a month ago. Just download the TDR GPX file to your computer. Next bring up the Gaia cloud (on your computer is easiest) and it will ask you what you would like to import. Go for tracks then hit the browse button, select the TDR GPX route of your choice and load it. That simple. It will load KML maps too. It will sync automatically to your phone when you open the app. As long as you have connectivity it will allow you to do an overlay of many map types to include USGS topo and google cycle maps. After your track is down loaded it will ask if you want to download maps as well. You have to say yes so it will load maps associated with the route for off line use. Mine automatically downloaded all the USGS topo maps associated with the track. Cannot believe how simple it is to use. Now go back and add some way points for water/food and you are set. I am using it as a backup for my Garmin 650.

Ditto on the Gaia, it is also along for the ride as my back up. Only down side will be keeping the I Phone battery going if I actually have to use it 'long term'. IE: at night when my dyno is running the lights the I Phone would soon run thru it's battery and my small catch battery...
