Hey there Tanman, Glad to see you're in!! Where in the world do you get any vertical in Yuma? Come up to Phoenix, I've found some great day climbs, we can figure this thing out together!! Steve Hey Steve and Tanner, ( and any other AZ folks ) if you can get over to Tucson let me know. Some nice dirt road climbs over here on the back side of Mt Lemmon and into the Rincons. Even got to play on snow and ice a few days ago. ( bike tires and feet all sliding downhill ! ) My email is on the big google docs spreadsheet.

Is anyone planning to fat bike the TD this year?
Passed a guy in southern MT who was nobo on a VERY fully loaded Pugsley, but he was riding the route, not racing it. Still a monumental challenge. I'll post a pic when I get home. The only time I ever wished I was on a fat-bike was on the Idaho rail-trail. The rest of the time it would have been an ass-kicker!

Hi Mike, Tucson is a short trip, I will PM you and put it on the calendar. I need a change of scenery anyway. Been riding from Black Canyon City up to Crown King pretty often. Are you into doing some overnighters? Cheers, Steve

By the way, the Cordillera V5 is amazing! Twice at thick at previous volumes! Just finished the Yo Yo Billy Rice chapter. Billy you are AMAZING. "DON'T HAVE ANY MORE NEGATIVE THOUGHT EVER. THEY HAVE TO END". Thanks for the advise.
Pick it up guys if you haven't already. Well worth it! Thank you Mr. Bennett for putting these stories together.

OK, I'm in. Maybe 6 decades of camping and navigating experience will make up for, well, 6 decades of wear and tear. One of my objectives will be to raise funds and awareness for recovery of wolves and their habitat along the Great Divide. And I'm really looking forward to riding through my beautiful state of New Mexico! Nat Cobb

I've seen mention of a roster and letters of intent, where is this happening. Seemed like the website, TourDivide.org wasn't up to date?

Not sure where letters of intent are going, but here's the link to the starters list: Hi All, Since people are getting keen, I've resurrected the unofficial starters list. Please put your names down here if you're planning on racing 2014 in addition to the LOIs: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnV6xT65HkPRdE5WZ2c4S0pyZnd5Tk51cko1ZzJneFE&usp=sharingDon't forget your e-mails so I can harass you to contribute to Volume 6 of the Cordillera which will be on the 2014 race. And in case you are wondering ... The Cordillera Volume 5 on the 2013 race is finished, just waiting on the cover. It's almost 250 pages this year. Expect a posting soon on how to get your copy. Essential reading if you are planning on racing in 2014! And BTW, The Cordillera V5 is great! -dp

For "off bike time" shoes? I am thinking either nothing or just a pair of thongs (not the underwear ) what you say?

For "off bike time" shoes? I am thinking either nothing or just a pair of thongs (not the underwear ) what you say? Ok, I will bite.......To each his own—but a pair of "off time bike" shoes seems a totally unnecessary luxury item. Not the weight alone-but it’s also one more item to unpack and repack, find a place to carry etc . Where is the real, offsetting benefit beyond a bit of convenience? The whole concept of unnecessary clothing items just seems wrong for a fast paced TDR attempt…………… (actually now that I think about it a bit more--for TDR image enhancement--I think everyone but me should be required to carry extra shoes along with a full change of riding clothes and a set of non-riding clothes...... ) [if interested I blogged about my TDR shoe choice, it's the same shoe used thru the Grand Canyon for the AZT750]

For "off bike time" shoes? I am thinking either nothing or just a pair of thongs (not the underwear ) what you say? Not an issue for me. I run flat pedals and wear Keen sandals - great biking footwear, comfortable for walking, sturdy enough for hike-a-bike over rocky terrain, quick-drying.

Thanks for the tip on the blog. I especially appreciate the input on the padded gloves, as wrist & nerve discomfort seems to be an ongoing thing for me, even on shorter outings. I'm already swapping out the handlebar - maybe I'll pick up a new pair of gloves while I'm at it. -dp

If you are experiencing numbness on short rides I got to ask—have you done or considered doing bike-fitting session? If not might be something to consider………..
