If you are experiencing numbness on short rides I got to ask—have you done or considered doing bike-fitting session? If not might be something to consider………..
I agree. Body/arm angle and weight distribution are more likely culprits than lightly padded gloves. A bike fit and ergon (or similar) grips might indeed be the ticket. |

A bit of stoke for everyone.
Frame and some parts came Saturday. After frantically rummaging through my garage for all the other parts, I was able to ride it Sunday on some burly trails. It was pretty awesome.
Commuted on it today with a rack and panniers...the Knard up front will NOT go on Divide. That thing is a pig at 950 grams.

Not yet. I've got customer bags to make first. I should have it by this weekend. The tanks, especially the front tank, are going to be interesting. There are bolts on the top tube for the tanks. I may hold off on the front tank until I get all my electronics sorted out. I want everything to be tidy and secure.
The frame is so big, I may be able to do 3 compartments on the frame bag. It took a whole piece of poster board to do the template. Most customers can send me a template that fits on half a piece....at least cut diagonally.

Hi everyones! I'm in for the 2014 Tour Divide Race. I'm from Quebec, Canada so it's seem i'm going to be the "frenchie" this year!
Any advice on good tires? Which ones are more durable and for the vets, how many flats tires have you got on the trip?

I am considering either 2.1 Crossmark LUST (edit: EXO) on the rear/2.2 Ikon EXO front or rolling Conti Race King's with the Protection casing F & R.
The Ikon is a good tire but I've cut two of them when used on the rear.

I really like the nanoraptors, but the newer ones are a little light in the sidewall. I'm a conservative rider, so it doesn't matter as much for me. |

Only the tank bags will be bolted on. I may utilize the bottle cage bolts to bolt on the bottom part of the frame bag. Bolt on frame bags are a pain in the butt. I like them when they are on, but taking them off and putting them back on is much more time consuming than Velcro. |

Any advice about riding from Calgary airport up to Banff?? I'm arriving late Tuesday night and am trying to figure out a decent bike route out of the city and maybe someplace to camp as well. Any advice greatly appreciated.

To this very day the dust still hasn't settled, and it most likely never will when it comes to fully digesting the incredible spectacle of which the TOUR DIVIDE is once successfully completed. Reading all the above posts, takes me back just one year ago when I was checking in here everyday to read others advice given, thoughts concerned, etc, etc. The excitement of all you perspective "class of 2014" getting ready is very exciting and energizing, which brings back more floods of memories from last year. I arrived in Calgary late Monday night last year. Slept in the airport and then rode to Banff on Tuesday. I just grabbed a local map from the airport and figured out a quick route west to jump on the main route to Banff. Stappy (Craig Stapleton) can likely give you better directions out of the city (maybe on bike paths). Just prior to hitting the Banff NP entry booth - cross over the highway to the south side and grab the bike path all the way into Banff. I know that a couple of guys bivvied in a baseball dugout at an athletic field in Cochrane. They arrived in Calgary late in the afternoon and then biked a couple of hours to Cochrane and rode the rest of the way to Banff the following day. |

Awesome! Thanks for the advice. I've been checking out routes on Google maps and was planning on riding up to Ghost Lake campground but I like the idea of bivying in the dugout or maybe just pull over somewhere along the way. I arrive at like 11pm so I'm sure after riding a couple of hours and then camping out.

This is how I would ride from the Calgary airport to a coffee shop in Cochrane. The back roads are paved except for the last bit, it's much nicer than the highway and only takes 15-30 minutes longer. http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/fullscreen/346967787/There is an even better route to the south through Glenbow park. Hey Stappy thanks for the route suggestions. I couldn't see the map when I opened the link. Do I have to sign up for map my ride? It would be cool to see the specifics of the other route as well. I don't arrive in Calgary until 11pm. Which of these routes would be the easiest to navigate at night? I'd like to get up the road a ways and then camp out someplace like Ghost Lake. Is that a good place to camp or should I just pull off and bivy next to the road someplace/
