Well I know this is really late and I am probably crazy, but I am in for 2014 and going for the Triple Crown!!! Today is my birthday so I decided I am going big this year.
So I guess if anyone wants to help this TD newb figure out how to do this and get there and such, I am down for any advice tips tidbits etc.
Like for starters anyone want another to join in for a ride to Banff from Colorado?
Is it possible to do this with the track only and some basic notes, or will I be lost without cue sheets/ACA maps?
If I cant figure out logistics to Banff, I am just going to Northbound it.
Thanks in advance Mark Caminiti 720-635-7429
Hell Yeah! Great job! I land in Calgary the 9th, and there are at least two of us rolling out late afternoon of the 10th to ride to Banff. give a shout. danfhensley@gmail by the way, anyone wanna share a room in Calgary the 9th?

Thanks Tanner.
So TD Vets, do I need the map set, or can I get by backup navigating and water/food stop finding with just the narratives and a cyclometer? I know I can follow the track, but with just the narrative can I plan water? I am willing to buy the maps this weekend and the narratives, just wondering what my best plan is according to what you guys have done before.

Alright getting deeper into this thread and previous threads and such. Is the gpx file "TourDivide2012_v2.gpx" (or file "TourDivide2012_v2_10k.gpx" pre-simplified to 10k points) at www.topofusion.com the file being used for 2014? Thanks in advance and sorry for the barrage.

I used a GPS primarily with home made cue sheets. I will admit that despite more than 100 hours of research and preparing for the route, I needed my maps to save me several times. Without them, I'd probably still be wandering out there somewhere in the basin...

That is a good question, I was wondering where everyone is getting the GPX file from and which one to use. I unfortunately don't use Topofusion because I have a MAC. I use base camp for all of my routes. Anyone have a good link to the GPX file?

I almost never used the maps. Dead weight. Use the GPS track, cue sheets, and identify off route supply options before you ride. Having Garmin Street Maps on your GPS also helps with off route options.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the barrage. Yes. It says on the site: "No changes for 2013. The 2012 v2 file is the most current for Tour Divide, and 2011 for the GDMBR." Also, you don't need to use Topofusion to use the track. Just get the .gpx file and upload to your GPS manually.

Thanks Big Poppa. I will consider the maps. I just know I dont use anything like that in AZT and CTR, but if my gps fails I either need the maps for reference or a backup gps. I suppose I could Nav with a cyclometer and the cues with no maps if my gps fails, but the maps would help at that point. Thanks Chris Bennett. I use Garmin Software know it well can easily do the free topos and 10k track load on minutes to my old Vista hcx. The regular and simplified tracks are here: http://www.topofusion.com/divide/gps.php

I guess I should also add, I had the maps in photo form on my phone. Otherwise, they would have been a ton of weight….

Wait, are you faster than me?
I think you should carry all the maps if you are.
I used to know the answer to that question (no). Since my epiphany in the AZT this year and now looking for a sub-20 lb bike I would say yes I plan to go many hours a day and I aint chilling in motel rooms unless I am near death. Sleep kit is no bag no pad. Wear all clothes. I plan to carry about as little gear as Mike Hall last year. After AZT and checking out Aaron Denberg's setup I think I think I got it figured out. So no maps for me just the pix on phone. I am meditating and visualizing great results I dont plan on teaming up or riding in groups unless I am in top 10-20 and it makes sense. Things have changed for me. I ran hard on the treadmill last night best first workout after AZT/CTR ever. Gonna go big tonight. I crossed a big mental hurdle in the AZT this year on a heavy bike. Now I have shop sponsor and I am dead serious about killing it.

Hey Mark,
Dude 4 times on the AZT750??!! Even Jill says you're nutz!
You mentioned Northbound for the Divide. If you go North I'll looking for someone to drive my truck back to Colorado.

So,I was wondering what everyone is running for cassette and crank settups,as far as teeth, gear spread, and number of rings. I'm sure there's a decent variety, just interested.

Sorry man, Jill told me you were looking for a ride. I'm all booked up and loaded for the trip north. If a spot opens up I'll be sure to let you know!
