Awesome story about Dave J. How much of the GDT is he planning on riding? Some trail magic needs to happen in the form of new tires.

I'm wondering if those mechanics tried the cotton ball trick with the tires.

Another Arizonan, SoBo Lindsay Shepard, should be launching from Banff tomorrow.  She and Mike should run into each other around Elkford tomorrow.  Don't know how they can avoid it.

Thanks for the updates on Lindsay Bill.  Will keep watching for her.  Missed ITT Hawkins two days ago as I wasn't here.  Sorry 'bout that.

Dave Jennings. Wow, 82 years and still going! Not just that, but just decided to take this on in the past couple of years? An inspiration to us all.

Another little story how the world is really strange.

I am an avid San Jose Sharks hockey fan and am on a forum that discusses the team and their various ways of choking [okay that is sarcasm and the way Sharks fans deal with reality].  I have communicated via the Sharks forum with a woman named Anne Paulson for years and years.  Last month I get an email from Anne asking if Sharks "Angler" is possibly the same as Ovando "Angler" writing on the backpacking forum.    Seems Anne is riding the Divide.  And sure enough she showed up today.  I always find it incredible to finally meet someone you have been chatting with for years.

One of the incredible benefits of Riding the Divide is the people you meet along the way.  So long before Anne arrived in Ovando I was receiving reports from those that had ridden a short while with her.  That she was a lone rider.  She may not make record mileage but when she hit the road she would leave them in the dust.    Anne I know you read this site and it was sure pleasure meeting you today.  You truly impressed me.  We'll reconnect in October when our beloved hockey team starts playing again.

As of 10:30 Saturday morning, looks like Mike Ingram has made Elkford, perhaps push on to Banff yet today? Lindsay Shepard looks to be climbing Flathead right now. Both fellow Arizonan's!!

I think they were both in Sparwood at the same time but managed to not cross paths.

Looks like Mike Ingram finished about 7:08 pm.  Still time for a shower, dinner and a beer.  Nice Job, Mike!

I'm Baccckkkkkk.......

And so says Lindsay Sheppard from AZ who is ITT'ing it and trying to beat her previous TDR time of 30 days.  So far she thinks she is on track for 21 to 22 days.

Arrived into Ovando around 11 am [it was mighty good seeing a familiar name and face]; where she downed a double ice cream cone of chocolate and chocolate mint, washed down with a coke and mountain dew.  [I am burping for her at the sound of this].  She left about an hour later on a sugar high and with a belly ache.  :-)

Lindsay!  Less Than 30!!

Carry on cowgirl!

Hey folks maybe you can help me.  I have heard of now 3 detours [from Lindsay the latest one] on the TD route around this area.  Where would be the place to post these so there won't be as many surprised riders?

1.  Bridge being rebuilt north of Condon MT near Cold Creek & forest road 888 so that area will be closed to traffic.
2.  Detour just north of Seeley Lake around Cottonwood area for a culvert placement.  It isn't a bad detour but it is a shock when you drive up to a road closed sign.
and
3.  Huckleberry Pass at Beaver Creek for culvert placement.  No cars allows through but cyclists are.

How to get the word out?
Thank you!

You can pass them along to Adventure Cycling Association and they will post them in their addenda.

Of course, this will only help those who remember to check.  You could call the bike shop in Whitefish and ask them to post something as well.

Does anyone know roughly how many riders from the Grand Depart 2015 ended up finishing? I know trackleaders has them listed by category but it appears many who withdrew are still being displayed as 'active'.
