naw... I was just showing some respect to Eszter.
saw Neil at Stagecoach 400... really impressed. And JayP is a legend.
But you never know about some dark horse....
Alex is the organizer behind the yet-to-be-run Munga. He's got one of those adventure resumes that seem pretty impressive, 7 Summits, walking to the south pole, multiple time winner of Freedom Challenge in South Africa. He's finished TD before. He was giving Jefe a run for his money last year before injury put him out of the race. My guess is that he's got something to prove. I'd bet that he's biding his time sitting just a few miles behind the leaders waiting to see if they crack each other. Seb also seems to have come into this firing on all cylinders. He and Bethany (sitting a close second in the women's race) have been planning this trip for...well, a while now. My guess is neither of them showed up to lolly-gag across the country. |

SS Record as I understand it is STILL Chris Plesko @ 19:00:21, which has stood since 2009! That has to be one of the longest running records of the TD. It's prime to get broken, but Plesko was certainly on a great run that year.

The women's race is looking interesting. Lael Wilson is sick; I'm expecting Bethany Dunne to overtake her soon. And Alice Drobna and Jill Homer, both strong veterans, are not far behind.

Yall's boy Cjell $ was on pace to beat the SS record as a nobo in '13 until the route got totally flooded out in Banff. His border to border time had a 15 handle IIRC.
(Or would that have just become a standalone nobo record, with Chris's still standing for sobo? I can't remember what the consensus is on that.)

Last year Richmond Ridge took out Alex's ankles and he had to quit. In appreciation to a couple of fellas in town, he sent Ovando his book on his achievements. And yes......the guy is epic. He was very upset about having to drop from the race in 2014, and vowed to us he would be back next year. And here he is. Yup he has something to prove and knows the turtle can beat the hare. |

I'm looking at the four 50+ women on the course. Lisa Downing and Rosemary Lee are ITTing northbound; wonder what happened to them just before Salida. ....
Lisa was hit by some heat-related health issues, they had to take a couple of days off, and I don't think they'll be riding the full course now, but skipping a section. Still an awesome effort unfolding by all the awesome women out on the course! |

Remember that - kinda heartbreaking. I think historically the border to border record should be remembered, as it used to be held by Kent Peterson, who's a huge inspiration to (at least) me! The SS record must fall! It's a killer way to do the course for sure. |

I too am looking forward to the Ladies and especially Tracy. It was Tracy that inspired Ovando to become more cycle friendly several years ago. I don't think she knows what a "mini-monster" she created.

i rode with Seb on this years Kiwi Brevet in NZ. He's organised, efficient and very self contained. Riding 200 mile days and hiking through snow won't be a bother for him. I only met Bethany briefly, but she impressed me as someone with a super positive outlook on life (and riding). |

The pace of this year is awesome, but Mike Hall was going faster in 2013. Jefe last year was going faster also, with that poor conditions... Perhaps this year the difference is that there are more cyclist are going very fast, the first 8 are in less than 30 miles.

Where is young Ben Greene? I saw him yesterday, a couple of hours after the Grand Depart, behind the Y, and gave him directions to the Trailhead. Wondering if he even started! His tracker is not on, so if someone sees him, let him know!
Hi Marianne (sp?) CrazyLarry and I ran into young Ben Greene (Idaho) late Friday afternoon (approx. 1830 hrs) along the Spray Lakes Road before Mt. Shark. We stopped and had a chat/interview with him and gave him some info on MTBCast Call-In service. His dad said that he was going slow, taking a lot of breaks, but was still making his way along. Unfortunately, he was one of the few that I missed with a photo/video, otherwise I would post it here. Hey thanks so much again to you and Tom for your hospitality in Banff. Great to see he's doing well. .../JP |

That's an interesting fact. I can't see how Jefe was doing that with the weather the race had. I think you're correct though. So many guys running hard this year makes it look so much faster. What I find crazy is if you look at the "projected" times, there are some really respectable times for nearly half the field. Super entertaining to watch this year. |
