First 'snow report' that we're gonna get is from the lead group as they go over the pass between Brush Mtn Lodge and Clark, CO, which is still a couple days away. If you look at Billy Rice's Facebook page, he posted a video of his NoBo ride from Pinedale north over the new route...lots of snow there as of two weeks ago. Looks like Jay is already over that stretch, hopefully one of those early riders will call in a report!
Right, thanks for the clarification. I watched that vid a few weeks ago, but got my lines crossed on where it was geographically. So, both JayP and NeilB are now through this 'new pass route' bypassing Union Pass that had snow weeks ago, and I don't see either of their dots showing a walking-through-snow pace. Edit: another indicator of snow levels/issues would be lead NoBo rider KevinJ, who has made it through Northern NM and Southern CO (Platoro to up over Indiana Pass, plus Marshall Pass) without apparent issue. And yes, good to see JoshK is still riding strong and I believe is now past his point-of-DNF from last year. Nice! Way to go, Josh!

Is the Union Pass reroute a permanent change or just something for this year due to construction, road conditions, etc?

For those out there relying on maps ...
From NoBo ITT Saul Britton's Facebook post.
"If anyone is following my Tour Divide tracker and wondering why I'm off course ... I am not lost! My GPS has failed so I am now using printed maps to get to Canada - and these printed maps often take a different route along the divide than the official race route. Disappointing to say the least - but I will still wander and roam to Canada- albeit quite a bit slower than originally intended ... Printed maps are slow!"
Saul Britton "Thanks for the support everyone. - this was never intended to be anything other than a great big adventure - the race part was never important to me. Riding 225km yesterday and then once I sourced internet in Rawlins discovered I was in the complete wrong location was devastating. That was a very long and hard day riding through uninspiring countryside, all for nothing."

Wow...Tom DeVries (AKA Dad =) ) was certain he was going to quit twice on the ride so far: Day 1 because he plugged the whole drivetrain up with mud so badly he couldn't turn the cranks, ended up pushing for 10 km, and finally got it working after washing the whole bike in a river. "If it hadn't been for the river, and a last ditch attempt at fixing the bike, I was out". (He's running belt drive and rohloff, i'm not sure what seized up...) And then he got a wicked head cold that has lasted since day 2, (he's on antibiotics), and ended up staying in Seeley Lake, even though he wanted to continue with Mitch Potter. He attempted to change brake pads that night, and one of the pistons was seized. He called me the next morning to say "he was out". I kindof talked him out of it, and he was going to hitchhike back to Whitefish to get the brake fixed, and if that didn't work, he was done. While looking for food in Seeley lake, he saw a sign at the Seeley Lake guiding hunting store (?) "Tour Divide Riders -mechanical assistance call this number". The person who answered said he would be in at 10, so dad waited around for a couple more hours, and I hoped upon hope it was fixable... The miracle bike mechanic removed some brake fluid and got the piston to retract. Dad was completely taken aback that he was about to put the bags back on and keep riding... He rolled through Ovando (not freezing cold this year), and slept in Butte last night. I was under the impression that "slowing down" actually meant slowing down... (Mom and I were thinking he was going to stay at Polaris Lodge as he had told us...) But no...he should be rolling into Lima within the hour, catching back up to Mitch, who left Helena 17 hours before Dad did! 333kms today, and Fleecer Ridge (which he was also super concerned about). Unreal. I think he made up 20 spots on the board today. What a guy...

The third wave of TD riders dropped off the Pioneer Mountain Scenic Byway into the Grasshopper Valley today. Twenty five riders stopped by the Montana High Country Lodge for services and four are spending the night.

Nice riding by Tom today, for sure. Very impressive. RobertO and SarahJ also look to have made the jump from Butte-to-Lima in one day today as well.

Kent, I remember riding up that hill. You were not slow! I think I recall you flying away down once we reached the top.. I am not a downhiller Yep I am sort of torn between enjoying watching and wanting to be out there riding. I sure had some bad moments but it was also such an amazing experience! I am really excited by how well Josh K. is doing and wishing Josh J. better luck! Watching all these amazing competitive women has been great. Maybe some day I will get a chance to go again, but for now coffee and watching dots is great fun. I am a bit worried though because Josh K. and Dylan T. did not seem to get much sleep last night. I hope they don't burn themselves out.
